Geelong away to start the season. Again. Thanks AFL.

Not a bad fixture for us to be fair. Double ups against Geelong, Bulldogs, Adelaide, WC, Carlton, and Melbourne. The only real issue is so many prime time games which we always shit the bed in. Not to mention 2 Thursday night home games is absolute ****ing bullshit.

I always see this as a bit pointless. There would've been teams probably happy to get Adelaide twice last season and then all of a sudden they're minor premiers.
True, I guess a luck is involved too as to when you play teams in terms of form and injuries.

I don’t take much notice with which top teams from this season we play next season, so much changes it matters very little imo.
I don't get that upset at who we get twice anymore. It's usually a hard set of teams and usually doesn't stop us getting into September.

but did lol at the giants finally targeting us.

Nothing says flawed system like the back to back premiers having picks 5 and 6 in back to back year thanks to F/S and Academy picks, not to mention being finalists for the last 7 years and having 3 top 6 picks in the last 4 years.

Great list management.

If the only definition of a "good" system is making it impossible for talented staff to be successful sustainably then that's pretty ****ed.

Freo fans can’t complain, they’ve just landed Mason Cox.

Freo seem to be going down the Port Adelaide route of "last piece of the puzzle missing" again. The last piece of the puzzle missing is a coach but they haven't worked that out.

Point still stands on the academy crap though. Winning the flag and having top picks without having to do a trade for them is just shite and the AFL needs to get rid of club academies and run them themselves. They have the money especially given how much they dole out.

The drafts a bit of a mess atm.

Not really. He is mainly as backup in case Darcy or Jackson pick up an injury. He'll spend most of his time at Peel. In a perfect world we sign someone younger but he was basically the best of the delisted ruckmen.

West Coast get pick 2 for their Captain, who over 8+ years maybe had 1-2 great seasons.

While yes Richmond get pushed back in the draft they're being pushed back for players that wouldn't be in the AFL system if not for academies, thus they're still picking the 3rd-4th best players from the open pool.

We just need to see if the bidding changes this year and more to come next season end up making academy clubs pay a price that is fairer than it has been.

There's no proof of that.

Richmond started with Pick 3 and 4, ended up with 7th and 8th best players (according to the draft), hardly a fair system
The better players wouldn't exist without the Academies. The AFL would be hopeless running them.
