Was always going to happen. This is why we needed to go in with maximum flexibility.

It’s the same attitude our recruiters have had for years. Tunnel vision for a specific strategy without planning for all outcomes and not bothering to go the extra step or make the tougher calls.

Likely we thought we’d top up with the NGAs from this point and lazily didn’t make extra room where it really would have made no difference.
Yes, exactly

If we matched a bid on Williams before our next pick then took FRod I wouldnt be too upset. Hes still the same player he was when he was rated as a top 5/10 pick, and if we plop him at HFF he fills a nice role player/link up role we dont have.
NHH would be ideal though, if we could get him with the next pick thatd be the best result from here imo.
Poo my second pick after NHH, hes more of a mid and has a ceiling too.

Point is im ok matching a Williams bid from now onwards, as long as it doesnt cost us Banfield/Evans

So who do we want at 29 and 34?

NHH
Philipou
Greeves
LeRay
Emmett
Swadling
Onley
Curtin
Looking at our updated U25 list, Based on Needs one would say maybe it's Thredgold, Philipou, Greeves who would be the best candidates. I don't really like Greeves personally.

Sadly the above mentioned are superior to Banfield and Evans, so our list spot squeeze is likely to impact and we miss out on one/both if a bid comes.

Waded through the 60 pages of the draft day thread but will resist the urge to catch up on this one.

Duursma, CDT ✅✅

Bidding early was good, to really squeeze GC they should have bid on Patterson as I presume many have said, but I really do think that the word around “they’re just bidding in ranking order” probably holds a bit of weight.

Now, the trade.

Whether the stuffed the maths or not, I wonder if they more specifically stuffed the gamble that GC wouldn’t go into deficit next year? Have we had any clarity on if that’s the case? In any case, Saints F2 is a big price to pay to move up one spot, especially as we have likely NGAs to match next year.

However, with all that said, and with what transpired after with the Bulldogs, I really think both Hawks and Dogs were in for Lindsay so we obviously had to make a deal good enough to satisfy Hawthorn to miss him and likely outbid the Dogs.

I think we paid too much to move, but I’m bloody rapt to have the best kick of the pill in the draft head our way.

Later picks have come in a good way, plenty of options still. List spots could yet prove tight, that’s a cross as we suspected heading in. So easily resolved too, what a shame.

Very happy with the results, process odd at times, but I’m not turning up to Optus for hours every fortnight to watch a flawless draft process - I want talent on the park and we’ve added plenty (and they all seem like ripper kids too).

If you move Hewett back into the middle where he likely plays long term, Greeves and Poo probably arent as high on the list.

Puts NHH much higher up the list

I also think Allan will be green on this by the second half of the year. Gross will depend on how fit he gets and ho wmuch opportunity he gets

Not against Poo (not keen on Greeves), just things id consider

You can’t plop Fred anywhere, that’s the issue, useless if he’s not in the midfield.

It’s why he has good stretches and then completely disappears from games.

Sam swadling anyone?
Tried my hardest to rate him, went and saw him live several times and he’s truly one of the most funny watches ever.

His ball winning ability is great, but he turns backwards nearly every single time, gives of a handball, runs around his team mate begging for it back, just to stab kick the ball 8 metres.

He has a lot of natural talent in terms of reading the flight of the ball etc. but everything else is so, so grim, I’m not sure who worked with him to develop his skills, lol.

Zero hurt factor, terrible kick, gives of hospital handballs all the time and won’t be able to rotate across the ground well at AFL level.

Im ok missing both of those two tbh, unless one of CDT or Archer asks for a trade, which I dont think is likely

CDT and Archer seem the absolute ideal modern ruck combo
They may work out but with Barnett not looking like being much good we can afford another in our ranks

Can't say I'm that excited with whats left. It's just not a deep draft at all.

Phillipou & BOB I'd take if they last.

NHH could be a gun or a Tom Lamb.

Onley is a worse version of Greeves who I'd def take over him and be okay with.

Threadgold can't kick & likely gone anway.

Emmett is Meh & we already have CDT now so do we need him. I also don't think we need anymore talls we are pretty well stocked & if we need another KPD just swing A.Reid back.

I'd be happy to be honest trading the picks into the future and just grabbing 2 of Williams/Banfield/Evans & hoping 1 of them slides to the rookie draft. Really think therea not much difference between them & whats left tbh.

I hope we do this and prioritise Williams. Really need a small forward.

Now that would be wonderful if they pulled that off, as it would nullify the Carlton threat of them bidding on Williams, as payback to us for bidding on Dean.
I'm not bothered by Carlton bidding. It looks like NME and WBD will take talls so if Carlton bids on Williams, we just take someone we like. It they do this, it won't be the payback they'd expect.

I know we just took CDT, but I really like the look of this kid - Zayden Lockwood. Look him up. I tried to up load a video off YouTube but it is too large. This guy has a crazy ceiling.
