I heard from a reliable source , person works for the AFL .. Dean is one of the nicest kids you will ever met … I don’t think that’s surprising being Peter Deans son.
That’s great, but he better have his old man’s campaigner when he crosses the white line😉

How badly are we expecting the rules to change in relation to Walker next season now? (Apologies, I know this has probably been asked to death).

I didn't bother watching the draft but my folks called me up to try and understand what was going on. Verbally explaining how the Gold Coast were able to nab 4 x first rounders as well as Petracca was a difficult thing to do haha.

That was West Coast's fault.
Suns came into this year very prepared. But also, that was only possible due to the previous system, where the DVI was so far out of whack.
If the 2025 rules had been in place for the last decade, they wouldn't have been able to get everything they got this year.

They're also down a F1 & 2 x F3s.
Precisely, so many look at the here and now and have got no clue about what happened last year or what’s happening next year.

There will be zero chance any club will be getting 4 first rounders from matching bids anytime in the future unless they completely gut the year before, the year after s draft picks and most likely good players being chopped.

People need to open their minds a little bit

Agree on McGovern, dont agree with early delistings and payouts unless absolutely necessary (we did it with Holland's).

I think the point is that I'd like the list management team to be a bit more strategic about which players they lock in and the number of players out of contract at any point in time.
You are right 100%, I hate the idea of early payouts and having players like Boyd, Fogarty, Binns, Young and unfortunately O’Brien in the past on multi year contracts is totally unnecessary.

Why the need for multi year contracts for fringe players ? I don’t get it they are not going anywhere but if they get offered better or longer contracts from other clubs and don’t want to play for Carlton anymore good luck to them trade them out and find other fringe players the Cats and Swans are excellent when it comes to this.

Would you rather Harry Dean + future 2nd (let us see) or the 2 players taken at the picks we traded
which were Dovaston and Dylan Sharp?

The rider on this is if Carlton did not match Dean, we probably could have drafted Latrelle Pickett.
Anyway, insights from Draft Gurus are most welcome

Late first/early second round is where clubs often do silly things (like Eagles/Hawks) such as giving away F2 picks to jump a few spots to get a player. Having the night to reflect and call around would only help us here.

Can absolutely see us taking advantage again - especially if the kid we might've grabbed was rated after the 'big names' left on the board.

Does someone like Richmond or Collingwood move up a few spots and dangle their F2 + that 31/32? I'd almost consider Tigers F2 outright if we can still match Ison and take something late in the third round (or fourth, who'd care at that point).

Having both Tigers and North's F2 in a strong year with Cody would be wonderful.

Saints don't have an F2 though and a few F3 wouldn't do it for me.

Question is: which club might have someone available that they're frothing over and prepared to give something good up for?

Dean every day of the week and twice on Sundays. Back in the forwards we just brought in to bring some spark and remember we'll have Cody next year. We can play him and Jagga up forward for a few years around 25% for some natural flair and footy smarts around goal.

My point is if the Saints F1 was on the table to get back into this draft, SOS would have made the call to every list manager for the past 15+ picks. I highly doubt all would have said no.
Understand that, but surely North did the same last year and it took until Tigers pick at 28 for someone to take the offer.

Imagine if we could do 28 and Kangas F2 for Kangas F1. Pretty much the deal they did last year (Albeit into different strength drafts). We could give CW his jumper tomorrow regardless of any changes the AFL made to the FS rules.

Id go for it in a heartbeat.

I’d just hold 28 and take Phillipou if it were up to me.

We need a smart, skilful type in the Steele Sidebottom mould - and it’d be a nice little PR win over the Saints after the TDK/SOS saga.

Then try flipping our 27 F1 into 26, or go into 27 with a deficit to get Cody.
