  • Making rule changes and then changing those rules again.
  • Failure to support umpiring and making it a professional role.
  • Questionable tribunal system.
  • Goal review.
  • Poor excuses.
  • Making ill-informed statements like we saw with Schultz’s concussion and the umpires.
  • knee-jerk reactions to NRL initiative.
  • NGA. The reasons it was introduced and how it is being exploited.

You obviously feel they are doing a great job. I don’t share that opinion.
I’d love to understand why you feel that way.
I don’t think any of the above are problems, many of them are in the collective imagination of the general public who spend too much time thinking about little things in the game that don’t exist or aren’t important.

Go take a look at the big issues - viewership, crowds, financial strength - that’s how to measure success

That's a very basic, standard and weak answer. Now I understand why you believe the administration has done such a stellar job as custodians of the game over the past 20 years.

The rules and rule changes I don’t believe can be supported. They alienate supporters and make it difficult for new supporters to embrace the game. I have huge problems sharing the game because rules can’t be understood and are not consistent. I have huge sympathy for the umpires.

The rules - at least those outside of the absolute basics - have always been subject to change. Most of them are at the margins. If you are trying to explain insufficient intent to a new supporter I’d say you might want to take things back a notch or two.

All sports have their intricacies. That’s not where new supporters are looking.

The Stand rule has definitely improved the game. To me anyway.

I hate the stand rule, not because I think it has made the game worse, more so because I hate hearing the umpire yell "stand" every 5 seconds when watching a game.

Had breakfast with a mate and his young bloke this morning. His young bloke is heavily involved in AFL level umpiring. His prediction, expect to see a lot of 50m penalties in the early rounds off the back of the stricter stand rule application. AFL wants to reduce the incidence of players backing off the mark on a 45 to cover quick transition into the midfield. Players had better be drilled to accept the stand rule will be applied much more in 2026.

Of interest, he also said the last disposal rule will be applied much more like the SANFL model than the AFLW one. Expect the ball to be thrown in if the opposition doesn’t make sufficient effort to keep it in (ie: shepherds the footy over the line) and take the game on.

Happy with the fixture.

Only thing is why do we play GWS at Marvel.

This game should be at the MCG.

Done with Marvel we should only play there 2 times aways to dogs and north only.

Rest looks right.

Again Augusts tricky again.

I think we will get off to a good start in 2026.

Don't we have to play 2 home games at Marvel as part of the contract with them?

Giants & North both our home games at Marvel.
