Crows F2 seems too light. I would be pushing them for their F1 with our F2 going back. Hell, I would consider Doggies F4 to sweeten it.

Crows F1 is likely to be 16-20 range while our R2 is likely to be 22-28 range. There is a world that Crows F1 could be low teens.

Collingwood, Brisbane and Sydney are all sitting in positions where we could gain an F2 and give up an F3 if any of them wanted to move up (for 34, not 29).

Assuming a bid on Williams doesn’t come before pick 29

Are we better drafting a player with that pick from the names that have been discussed or finding a buyer willing to part with their 2026 R2 pick?

1) Player X + Williams (match with pick 34) and hope Banfield and Evans get through

2) 2026 R2 + Williams (match bid with pick 34) + Banfield (bid or no bid) and hope Evans gets through

Option 2 would also leave a rookie spot to fill with either Wes Walley, pick 1 in the RD or left option for a train on player assessment

My own preference would be option 2 provided it’s a F2 as a minimum because it guarantees us the ability to match a late Banfield bid who I personally don’t think is that far behind the players available at 29. It also replaces the F2 we traded last night and another list spot to consider our options with

Walk out with
• Duursma
• Duff-Tytler
• Lindsay
• Williams
• Banfield
• Evans
• TBA
• Still have all our 2026 picks plus an extra R2 pick to replace the now defunct Saints Death Ride Thread

Twenty four hours ago o would have taken that no questions asked
I wouldn't mind getting Fred in place of Williams if I'm honest. Need a young mid and haven't really got one this year yet.

If you want to see how far Footy in Queensland has come and especially the Gold Coast the Southport sharks are about to launch into a 500 million dollar redevelopment of their facilities including a 21000 seat oval for their vfl team. They dwarf any wafl club in finances and are the most competitive non aligned side in the vfl…

The suns academy will just keep getting stronger
You would think they would be favourites to be the 20th Afl side.

I'm rapt with the players we got, but think we could have been much smarter in retaining our 2026 2nd rounder while still getting the player we actually wanted in Addinsall. Like the idea we only bid on the strict order of our rankings is dumb. They should be bidding on the players that will give us the best chance of getting the players in the order of our list.

We absolutely need an elite user of the ball off half back, so no issues with our back up plan. But losing the 2nd rounder robs us of extra flexibility in the same way keeping Cripps on the senior list robs us of flexibility.

The list management team need to be a bit smarter in the way they go about things. They appear slow to react to moves made by other teams. As soon as Gold Coast traded picks yesterday morning, our approach should have changed.

Some will write me off as a bed wetter, I don't care. I believe my points are reasonable.

Today we should have had an extra list position to use. As it stands, so long as we get Banners Jnr I'll be as happy as I can be.

I'll have to temper my expectations when i see CDT for the first time next year because he is a ruckman.

I remember being at Subi with my Dad when they rolled out Michael Gardiner after taking him with pick 1 and he was like a Giraffe. Gangly, unco-ordinated, easily pushed around by other big men. I remember saying to my Dad on the way home "I can't believe we blew pick 1 on that". But then he went on to be maybe on a par with NicNat as the second best ruckman we have had. So it's hard to make reasonable initial assessments of them.

I said it was a mistake.

I'm just saying I don't really give a shit that it happened because of all the mistakes the club's made recently, this isn't a particularly massive one.

for me, the issue is that compounding effect of continued small mistakes, creates the big hole that we find ourselves in.

We have made some good decisions over the last few years, but it certainly feels like the majority are small mistakes here and there, paying too much for trades in and getting too little for trades out.

I’ve definitely got loser fatigue, from the last several years, so these small mistakes just feel much bigger atm and it is very hard to trust a team that has shown to be as incompetent as they have been.

I'm starting to suspect that the reason for not moving Cripps to the rookie list is that if we had, we'd actually have filled all non-CatB rookie spots, leaving us with no room to manouver in that space.

So ultimately, it comes down to having committed to Robertson, Macrae and Schoenberg for next year.

I suspect now we'll not end up with all our NGA/FS barring a lot of luck, but maybe there was always an intent to take just as many as we could once we'd run out of other targets, but accept that some would slip through the net. We've already seen that clubs are quite prepared to not take their aligned players if they don't fit their strategy at the time.

I'd certainly expect that 29+34 are for sale though if someone comes up with a fair 2026 based deal (and I reckon our F2 would also be on the table with those deals if we can get another 2026 F1).

It would mean missing bidding on Williams if he comes in before 37, but reckon that would be an acceptable risk (then we'd take Banfield and Evans if bidded on, or at the end of the draft, or on an extended rookie bench tomorrow)

(I'd also guess our strategy for 2026 in advance is not to be picking from the open pool late into the draft, hence offloading the StK F2)

am very happy with our draft but its hard to pretend that we havent mis-managd it all a bit.

i mean theoretically we had pick 1 and 2, hakws first, end of 1r, and first pick of rnd 2.
ala 1,2,17,23,24 (post compo)

frustrating that we had hawks pick and not carltons.

some how from the above picks we have lost ryan, a FF3 and ended up with stracevich, 1, 2 and 12.
and it is a very fair call that this could have been achieved with a patterson bid @3.
all in all it doesnt look great on clarke.

then the whole list space debacle going into tonight is just bleh.

again, im more then happy with who we have taken, but i think we may have done it all a bit harder then we should have.

to top it off, we gave those prick hawks a stronger hand next year.

i dont think its unreasoble to suggest the list management team may be out of thier scope in this role.

If that's the case, it's lot of arrogance from the worst football team of all time.

Ignoring the best contested midfielder of the draft with a CV longer than my Schlong (underselling Sharp a bit here) whilst having AFL team low rankings of

  • DIsposals 18th
  • Clearances 18th
  • Contested possessions 18th
  • Centre clearances 17th
  • Stoppage clearances 18th
  • Inside 50's 17th

Among many others.

Meanwhile we don't have a single midfielder who averages over 19 disposals a game in 2025. I'm not sure if that's also historically significant, but I reckon it would be.

There's head in the sand and then there's head in the sand. WCE is clearly demonstrating the latter 🚽
Which is all irrelevant anyway because he wasn't available for us to pick
