If that was the case then we'd never be able to pick someone in ND because we have already committed to those 3 rookies to be upgraded. So then the commentary of a 4th pick being a live pick would've made no sense. We have 32 senior spots filled, 7 rookie A and 2 Cat B prior to the elevation of the 3 rookies. (35, 4 and 2 after elevation). So we have 1 more spot left.

Mitch Marsh was actually a very good junior footballer who played for WA in the U18 championship. His Dad Geoff also played senior football for South Fremantle.

I don’t get this Watkins thing, looks good at SANFL level but is not up to the AFL standard.
Depth to me is someone who can fill a role for a short term at AFL level or someone who has the potential to play AFL sometime in the future in a permanent role.
I see Watkins as neither.

the narrative is Butters is already gone, we wouldn't consider Watkins if we thought that was true.

Every time i watched the SANFL i thought he stood out, not convinced he much more than a very good SANFL player but if it increases our chances of keeping Butters happy then i'm doing it.

I wouldn't normally like doing something like this, but Watkins is a lot better than Danny Butcher and Butters is in the Tredrea/Gray levels of importance to us.

Haha no I'm not. But I see where you've confused yourself.

We have 3 spots overall on the list. Agreed

We can have up to 4 senior spots open though. It absolutely is dependant on which way you cut them.

7 Cat A rookies becomes 4 Cat A rookies when the elevations are done.

32 senior spots becomes 35 senior spots when elevations are done. AFL rules require a minimum of 36 senior spots.

So after the 3 confirmed rookie elevations, Port must either have another rookie elevation, or take a live pick in ND.

Youre talking from an overall list sense. I'm talking about max capacity within senior spots because in the ND, you get given free picks in the back end to match the number of senior spots you have (if your current hand already doesn't satisfy).

I'm the same.
As a break glass in case of emergency midfielder, he should be ok for a year or so. We don't really know how his game would translate to the higher level and having stronger players around him, including Butters and JHF. I think he'd look ok much like Will Snelling did in some games. Obviously, we're not expecting him to be lining up in the 23 selected for an AFL finals series or grand final.

A two-way runner that sticks his face to the fire again and again couldn’t be higher on the Power’s shopping list. Rodriguez fits the bill perfectly. Not only that, he kicks well on both feet which could really make him a highly desirable player if he develops the speed to breakaway from stoppage once he enters the AFL.
