After the nepo baby comment last year it will be interesting to see what Ross comes up with this year. Although he might not need. If the Suns start the season strongly there might a few coaches joining in.
Edit: they’ve got the Cats first up so we might not have to wait long.
Their next three are against Eagles, Tigers and Dees. You’d almost think someone is trying to give them a leg up but surely that’s not possible.
Yep, they’ve done what they can - this was always the year that would blow shit up given GC’s hand and Bris for Annable, Allen and Draper.

Good to see old mate on board

"All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident."
- Arthur Schopenhauer

It's mostly only nuffy fans (and apparently Zeke Uwland) who are still in the ridicule stage. The clubs that benefit are of course locked into violent opposition. Everyone else seems to have rocketed to stage three in the last few days.

People should stop using the word 'compromised' in reference to the draft. The correct word is 'corrupted'. It's like saying 'supplements saga' when you mean 'doping scandal'.

Yes, Freeoh have pick 39
Geelong have pick 33
If we want Jpou we would have to trade into the draft
Not going to get him at pick 40, you would think.
Carlton would be keen to trade out 28 (might lose it if North or Bulldogs bid on their NGA), given we paid JSOS enough to get them a high enough pick, think it should be pay back time and trade with us to get us Philipou.

Not sure we would be allowed to trade for that pick.

It used to be ours.

28 - Carlton (via Essendon in pick swap, tied to St Kilda)

Great post...
Speaking of the media tripe....(I posted this on the Media threead -sorry bout the double, but I think it is important that we never feel ashamed of the NEPO baby prod)

...
I was chaffing at the bit this morning. SEN Sam Edmond and ‘Coons’ were taking calls about the draft and posturing about how good the Nirthern Academies are at the expense of callers who felt genuinely miffed that the Subs get given advantages. It was appalling. I generally have some respect for Edmond but I’m losing it. This was pure posturing.
Caller: AFL are helping Gold Coast win and they won’t stop til they get a flag
Edmond and Coons: disagree - we are getting players up there involved in footy.
What a croc?
Why are we here?
We love our team!
We demand a level playing field!!
These guys just want to create tension - fair enough. But when they spit this kind of tripe - conflating the spread of the game with unfair practice they are really stepping over the line. I hope someone calls them out for it. But I know that controversy never harms them.
Exactly. Because they work in Afl media they can't see past their own nose and have lost perspective from the long term generation of supporters like us.
Ask any ess, north , Carl saints , Melbourne supporters if they want the game grown in the northern states , and even to the point where we are now handing them future premiership s and we all would strongly disagree. We don't spend hundreds on memberships year in year out to purely prop up northern clubs and expand the afls media deals.
Im at the point now where I think k we are professionally run, and have the best young list we've had in years but the excitement doesn't go with it anymore . It just feels like we might one day be the best of the rest , but not actually premiership winners. Logic tells me it's now impossible. I ll still go to games and pay my membership , but the Nepo babies are only getting stronger . Not good .

We know Ross and Dalrymple like an athlete. Jack Dalton anyone?

Sandringham lad, sub six 2km time trial, tough ball magnet. Had a very strong underage year, captained vic metro and won their mvp before he broke both wrists coming into 2025 in a gym accident.

Small and questionable kicking are the knocks. Wants to be like Lachie Neale.

should be fine as it's passed through other hands. don't think it's worth trading for anyway

funnily enough last year we live traded 32+47 to Essendon for 28+58

Essendon then live traded that pick 47 straight back to us for our F2 (which is now that Carlton pick 28 in question) - with which we took Boxshall

so even if that rule exists (which I do believe it does)... I'm not sure how well it's being policed...

Nah that's not a thing. Clubs often trade back picks that were previously theirs. Carlton traded back their first rounder before trading it out again. Same with Hawthorn - the pick they used for Schubert was originally theirs before going to WC and Brisbane.
