So three delisted players that werent good enough to stay at other clubs, are gonna come in and be the bbwimf that we need? I love your optimism but I don’t see it.
They did all come from top teams and we probably are hoping at least one can step up, the other two solid WAFL back ups.

We wont know for sure for at least a couple more years, but I and most others would put them both in the very likely column.
Tbh we are past the point where we can be sure Archer will be something at AFL level, whether its full time ruck or ruck/fwd.

Not worth using high draft assets for yet another ruckman, when we can only fit 2 in the side.

Remember we still have JWilliams too, we only NEED one of Archer or CDT to be long term rucks for us, the other can fight JWilliams for the ruck/fwd spot worst case.

Dont need BVR or Walsh at this stage, would be a poor use of draft capital

If we lose one of Flynn/BW next year then find a state league ruck, find a cheapie in the yearly ruck roulette or draft one with a late/rookie pick.
I hear you with the use of draft capital, but with Livingstone gone, Barnett likely gone and one of Flynn/Williams gone it’s well worth using a second rounder or later on a quality ruck prospect.

Maybe I’m not as hopeful of becoming a Archer a no.1 ruck as others

That won't go down well with the melters, passing on Pou, Thredgold, NHH, Rodriguez, Ludowyke, etc to instead trade our early round 2 pick for a F3 that will end up in the 50's.
Plenty of clubs are liked to those players enough to trade into the 2nd round 2026.
Poo: Gee/Coll/NM/Ade/Mel/Rich/Stk
NHH: Mel/Rich/
Without going really deep there is an oppurtunity to shift at least 1 pick into 2026.

Did we do a wink and a nod with richmond to bid on as many as possible? man its pissed a lot of media off with how many were taken in the first round

Some spitballing around Collingwood might try to get up the table. Maybe their future second is an option

Collingwood have 32,37,47

Trading for 29 off us would give them an extra pick before a potential bid on their NGA kid - McCarthy. Would make sense for them

Pick 34 of ours basically covers a bid with pick 30 (Melbourne - who don’t need another small forward) and does cover a big from 31 onwards with some loose change coming back

Makes sense for them if there’s someone they like still at 29

Issue for us is Carlton also apparently trade down. Teams will be after theirs first

Maybe. But I don’t think they trade 28 as they will be able to use a live pick there before a bid on Ison. They have picks 38 & 44 that can cover a bid. And they’re only taking 3 picks overall

No need to trade 28 unless North or Bulldogs bid on Ison - even then they can match with just 28 and still have their later picks

So, my understanding is the most likely thing we will be doing now is trying to split our current next pick for a later pick in this draft plus a pick in next years draft. Because we can only draft one more player and if we use our next pick to take a player and then a bid comes for Tyler Williams after that we are screwed and won't have enough spots on our list to match the bid.

Is that correct?

Think we can draft 2 more, we had 5 picks.

I meant more in the sense of being a decently rated prospect (Swift being much higher) with practically no exposed form.
i think he could be a consistent x factor guy, where banfield i hope will just be the consistent feeder for us

We have two main list spots available so -

We can make one more live pick and still be able to match a bid on Williams but not Banfield if he is also bid on

OR

We don’t make another live pick and can then match bids on Williams AND Banfield

Effectively, using another live pick costs us the ability to match bids on two players meaning we’d be reliant on Banfield getting through the draft without a bid so we can rookie list him

They also made a point of their first pick coming in at #7, despite finishing 2nd last. Good to see they piped up about it.

I am glad i am not the one making the decision. If you get it right nobody will even notice let alone give you credit. If you get it wrong everybody will slag you off and some people will still be talking about it 12 months from now.

Agreed seems a bit weird but Cal reporting it
