Is it recency bias, but I can’t remember having so many players as highly rated left over, com pared to other years.

Greeves and Hibbins Hargreaves are rated 18th and 21st and were both touted as 1st round selections.

I have no idea about the forward we drafted but i said id be happy if we added another player, either a small forward or a tall, in the end i was surprised we went the small instead of Luwodyke, as there were more smalls in the open field.

How many spots do we have left? Will we take a rookie or just a few train on players?

….& we’re not paying mega bucks to sooks who want Lambo’s & surf beaches.

Guys like like JW, Walsh, H & Crippa are the guys you want.

We’ve spent too long, paying players waaaaaaay too much & then been hung over a barrel.

I hope, for the 743rd time, that we may have paved a way.

Surprising number of academy bids not matched in this draft. For all of the doom and gloom about the trades we made, we were never in a position where we had to make a hard choice on Dean or Ison.

St Kilda also got to match a late bid on an academy player, so maybe now their president can STFU about it.

I have no idea if there any "personality issues" but just looking at pure footballing reasons I'll answer the following questions. Just my opinion.

Why did Greeves go undrafted?

He's slow with poor endurance. Slow off the mark, slow over distance. Go watch a "highlights" package and you'll notice him caught with the ball to a ridiculous degree. Never seen a "top midfield prospect" caught with the ball so much at Talent league level. Its actually crazy.

Why did Hibbins-Hargreaves go undrafted?

He's either extremely arrogant and doesn't listen to his coaches, he's very stupid or he's been failed by his coaches. Or a mixture of the three.

As a forward he's not bad. That should've been his go. As a midfielder he plays like he's still running around in the u10s. Lots of overhead trickshot handballs to nowhere, weird positioning and generally poor disposal. It strange because put him in front of goal and he's a good kick. A lot of this stuff should've been drilled out of him by his Talent league coaches. It doesn't matter if you get 20-30 possessions in the Talent league if your game is completely unsuitable for AFL level.

Jimmae, no one has taken him. Not just us. No one.
Yeah so there's a huge concern about how he thinks/behaves. It can't be about speed and endurance, because his footage shows enough of it across games.
We didn’t exactly run Durdin through the midfield to find out if he could amass possessions- unless you’re suggesting he averaged those numbers as a small forward.
We did, but when we put him near a stoppage at either level, he wound up with an injury.

Just didn't learn to protect himself, and then seemingly never wanted to build himself into a more fluid outside player.

The memory of Betts, Yarran and Garlett is better than the reality of Betts, Yarran and Garlett.

Anemoia. Nostalgia for a time you've never known.
Really?

Garlett kicked around 184 goals in just over 100 games
Betts kicked around 320 goals

Yarra’s is the outlier here, the reality was three really good players

Yes I can AFL Tables too. Eddie an ATG and the others had moments.

Playing all three very rarely worked in our favour.

Plus they had literally the best nickname ever: Setanta’s Little Helpers.

Yeah, i agree on NHH. His set shot kicking is sublime and with his size, speed and leap I was really interested in him. But you’re right, the more I watched, his decision making in traffic and his handballing skills just left me with huge question marks on him. You don’t get a lot of time and space in the AFL so you need to think quickly and move fluidly.

I’m not 100% writing him off but I can understand why clubs wouldn’t want to commit to him on a two year deal. He’d be worth a rookie pick to see how he responds to the step up in level and coaching.
