High possibility we didn’t feel one/both Banfield and Evans were worth the main list spot.

On the main list coming out of contract we have the following players a chance to be delisted (without Cripps/Barnett):
Cole
Bazzo
Long
Johnston

As much as people don’t rate the bloke, B.Williams wouldn’t be delisted. I could see him going as a UFA but that doesn’t exactly create a list spot.

Ideally one of the last 3 perform well enough to be retained as well.

Personally I’m not overly pleased with the decision to retain Cripps/Barnett but looking for the logic behind it.

After day 1 it is hard to say we had a terrible draft.

Yes we seem like we stuffed up the bidding strategy on GC players to ensure they couldn"t match the 4th Academy bid.

And we still seem to undervalue centre bounce midfielders. Moneyballing the position isn't the way to go.

We also seem to fail on the little decisions which add up to a bit over the who list management season.

Missing out on both Evans & Banfield was disappointing.

The best thing you can do when you realise you have made a mistake (i.e. Owies and Barnett) is to recognise and admit it quickly and then cut your losses and clean up the mess. The worst thing you can is refuse to cut your losses because it involves admitting to yourself, and implicitly to others, that you made a mistake and you will have to endure a loss of face.

Unfortunately blowing the salary cap by more than a million in one season, to take a punt on 2 speculative rookies, probably isn't a good idea IMO.

Ive thought a few obvious things should happen but havent with this club recently so my best answer is

Banfield & Evans IMO aren't going to be deal breakers in the long run. We will add another bunch of 5 kids next year, all the guys will have another pre season in them & we will start seeing who's got what it takes. Someone said we now have 27 kids under 23 so plenty to work with.

It's the relief of the moment, the club you were meant to go to didn't have the draft capital and you're left in no mans land. Players that get that deep in the draft have 0 guarantees they're even getting a spot at an AFL club.

Brisbane, who can afford to take a punt on a speculative talent way earlier than he was projected to go because they probably knew we would match there, as well as perennial losers Fremantle and St Kilda.

You know there is no draft ranking system outside the draft? There is no actual projected draft position.

Every year.

Then 3 years later the players the melters were obsessed over are quietly delisted after never having debuted and they never come back to admit they were wrong.

Kinda the same as the folks on here who relentlessly shouted down those of us who were flagging issues with our performance in 2019.

Absolute crickets after 6 years of some of the worst football put up at any level. Despite posting near every day.

I do have to chuckle when Mr Badger starts coating our shit in glitter. Heart of a saint that fella!
