And a song to sing as we watch,

Hey Matty Clarke by Kevin (Random260) Wilson :

Hey Matty Clarke you campaigner, where the **** is Sharp
I’ve looked at all these other spuds and there’s no one that I like
I wrote you a ****ing letter and posted about it twice
You dopey ****ing Richmond fart, you forgot my ****ing Sharp

If I wanted a stupid ruckman type, I would’ve bloody asked
And this half back flank and temu mid, you can shove right up your arse
You’ve stuffed the bloody order up, it’s enough to make you spew
But it’s not just me who’s snakey, SGIO is dirty too

Next time I come to see ya, I’m going to punch you in the guts
And I’ll sack the other recruiting knobs and kick Toddy in the nuts
You just wait 'til next year when you go back to the draft
And me and me little GIO come stomping through the door
And we'll say, yeah, you wait for it

Hey Pyke and Woosh you smell his breath
And check his bloodshot eyes
And don't listen to him eagles fans 'cause he tells ****ing lies
He's just a ****ing useless campaigner and he's not even very bright
'Cause the stupid ****in' w***er, forgot me ****in' Sharp

Hey Matty Clarke you campaigner, where the **** is Sharp
I’ve looked at all these other spuds and there’s no one that I like
I wrote you a ****ing letter and posted about it twice
You dopey ****ing Richmond fart, you forgot my ****ing Sharp

It's funny how it interrupted the lyrics XD

Let me get this right.

Essendon rebuilt their midfield in one draft.

We cant get there in 20 drafts.

Pathetic.
Yeah Essendon got it all sorted in one draft.

Just like 2020. Picks 8/9/10 was it?

How about we wait for a single one of them to have a kick before we assess who did what now.

And if we’re measuring who did what in a 20 year window…Essendon probably not the club to use as your example.

Is the reigning premiers talent ID all that good? 80% of their key players have come from Academy/FS/FA/Trade.
briztoon Something funny?

Since 2018 outside of academy father/son from pick 20 you’ve drafted:
  1. Ely Smith - pick 21
  2. Tom Berry - pick 30
  3. Thomas Joyce - pick 40
  4. Connor Mcfadyen - pick 42
  5. Devon Robertson - pick 22
  6. Brock Smith - pick 33
  7. Jaxon Prior - pick 59
  8. Harry Sharp - pick 43
  9. Henry Smith - pick 48
  10. Kai Lohmann - pick 20 ✅
  11. James Tunstill - pick 41
  12. Logan Morris - pick 31 ✅
  13. Luke Lloyd - pick 42
  14. ZZ - pick 51
  15. Reece Torrent - pick 64
  16. Ty Gallop - pick 42

Hardly an incredible hit rate.

Apart from Cripps to the rookie list which would've given us six picks. I am glad we didn't go stupid and delist too many and leave us short for spots in 2026 when we should have a better draft and academy players.
We have 15 out of contract in 2026 which sounds a lot but i expect only half will be moved on.
We have ten out of contract in 2027 and the three that may be retirees/delist are Kelly. Yeo and Owies.
If Owies has a bad year we could delist a year early but may need to carry somebody into 2027 as our third delist.
List management is not just about this year but the following years.
Two simple list changes that get players off the main list that won't be there in 2028 would have been simple and it wouldn't be compromising team performance given our extended rookie list..

You answered your own question when you got to 2027, 25 out of contract over 2 years in what will probably continue to be deeply uncompetitive sides. We want as few list changes in 2027/ 28 as possible.

I disagree that our 2026 academy players are better. Certainly more depth but beyond Kenh and McGlade I wouldn't be counting on any others just yet.

Brisbane recruiting staff havent had to do a whole lot recently though tbh.

F/S, academy and Logan Morris(who is benefitting massively from being in a very strong side) in the last few years.

The general consensus is our recruiting staff have drafted quite well over the last few years

Id argue our recruiting staff have more credibility than the Lions guys in recent times
They also let Ah Chee walk for nothing because the picks Adelaide were offering had no value to them.

And any future father son for WCE, the dad will telling the club to go F themselves.
So parents of academy kids will be telling Brisbane to go **** themselves will they?

How about Adelaide after they refused to nominated Luke Edwards? Didn't seem to cause them any issues with Michelanney and Welsh.

How about Collingwood not nominating McGuane?

If any future FS is going to tell the club to go '**** themselves' because WCE don't want to offer them a charity list spot, so be it.

Yeah but gee they did bloody brilliantly to get those multiple top 6 picks every year after winning a flag.

Frod no chance then?

Given the comments from Clarke about wanting to add speed and agility I suspect not

My preference would be for us to use that first pick in the RD but Clarke’s talk about going the train on route doesn’t fill me with confidence. Sounds like we want to add some older than another 18 year old draftee

Blamires might be an option since he’s a bit older but get the sense we’ll be looking at train ons. No idea who they might be and probably depends on which mature aged DFAs miss out in the RD tomorrow

I suppose we could be Port Power who had such a great season that they didn't need to take part in the draft.

I actually didn't think this was allowed. Thought that every club had to take a minimum of 2 players in the main draft every year.

Why wouldn't he? If we nominate him, it means we're taking him if he gets overlooked, so it guarantees him an AFL list spot.

It's why we nominated Evans and Banfield.
Oh I agree he’d nominate if he’s looked at as a later pick, but I think there’s a very solid chance he bursts into top 20-30 talks, he’s much better than Charlie imo.

A lot of people missing the point.

Players we drafted? Huge win. Great haul of excellent young men/players.

List management meaning we couldn't match bids on Evans/Banfield? Huge fumble.

Last time I repeat myself I promise.
Clarke said it in his interview - They were only ever taking 5 18yos in the national draft this year because they want to balance out the age profile of the list. If Banfield/Evans made it through tot he rookie list, they'd have taken them there instead. Now they'll likely look at SSP instead and probably put Walley on the Cat B list.

The capped number of kids in the main draft thing makes sense if you buy the age profile take but, given they were open to Banfield for example in the rookie draft, I don’t see why we should be looking at train ons instead of just chancing it with someone of these surprising sliders.

When every club in footy passes on you, it’s usually for a reason, but as we’ve seen it’s not always how it goes so I’d rather the high upside swing.

I hope he does and if so, I'm sure we'll nominate him and he'll commit.

The club would communicate constantly all possibilities to club-tied prospects, so Banfield would've basically known pre-draft that if he were bid on by another club, we wouldn't match.

Evans said in his post-draft interview he pretty much knew WCE weren't going to take him in the main draft.

Clarke should worry about our talent profile and you should be on the clubs payroll.
