Byrne probably the most bankable small for mine. Dovaston has more press, but not sure he is without risk. Range will be difficult quality small forwards need a suitor guess anything from 12-30ish. Being 174cm may put him at the back end of the range.

Would like him to be in our mix. Can’t pass up Dean. Lindsay probably a dream.

Not concerned busy reports of a weak draft. There are players there that we could use. The draft is light for bankable mids outside of the academy kids which builds the poor draft perception.

Way back on page 14. Nice work.

Austin with his live trading is what Stephen Silvagni thought he was.

Great effort by Austin, CD and Wright
Gotta say, I like the work of CD so far.

I recall the Summer Sessions interview with Austin a year or two ago where he openly stated he's uncomfortable with public speaking. Would much rather just get on with the job of list management than face the media.

So up steps Davies and says 'don't worry about the media Nick, I'll handle that. You just concentrate with the job at hand.'

Just a real positive step in the changing culture of the club to look after each other's backs.

Defensive transition/run is the big one.
The way the game is played now being a game all about hurting on the turnover.. clubs are super reluctant to draft players who can't find/keep up with an opponent on the counter. This has always been the big knock on Greeves despite his talent. Would have been a fine player 5-10 years ago. In the modern game clubs steer clear of these traits and it's all about speed and athleticism.

Then there's possibly other factors we aren't privy to in regards to interviewing and personality. That's speculation only but the clubs would get the vibe about whether a player will fit into the AFL landscape in terms of preparation, consistency, taking feedback on board, coachability etc.

When players slide past all clubs multiple times it's kind of telling.

Yes, Greeves was talked up as a sure selection by either Hawthorn or Geelong, so without seeing him play myself, i assumed he'd be picked around that 20-30 mark.

But then i read a single telling comment. That he doesn't, and won't, run defensively. Right then i knew he was in trouble. That is just not accepted these days. Even someone as elite as our Captain and dual Brownlow medalist, it kills when can't or even worse, won't, get back defensively.

*with Crippa, even he has got better at getting back when fit, but banged up a bit he struggles to. It is never for lack of wanting to.

Highlight reels do'nt highlight lack of intent without the ball. If Greeves was told and coached to do it, but failed in intent, his non-drafting doesn't surprise.

It was practice for when we did the same to Darcy Moore.

Can someone explain to me how we've had this exact same problem for so long? It's literally been our biggest problem for decades. Who's behind this? Some deep state collingwood albino illuminati conspiracy?
Nah, that’s the one man match review panel!!!!!
Our kicking woes are more of a Jedi mind trick kinda problem.
“These are not the players you are looking for” sorta deal.

What are your thoughts on us not going grabbing a tall? I was surprised in the end we went a small over a tall. Is there anyone left in the pool who you like?

We definitely needed a tall (or two) and I was hoping for Ludowyke.

Issue is (and I have said numeorus times) you don't pick a tall for the heck of it. If we don't rate them there is no point. Seems we didn't rate him or anyone else

I see Phillips now as a must for 2026. Good strong handy FB and great team mate. Effort is always good. Allows Young to be a back up forward/ruck.

With a heap of picks and SC room next year we can then target some KPPs we want. Early call but I think this and Cody will be focus

Last couple of years Voss & Austin have walked all over Lloyd

Not happening now. Wright has a clear focus on what we need to do and CD will implement it. Exactly what we needed

Could not be any happier that we drafted Talor really rate him and can't wait to see him in action for the mighty blues. Great overall trading outcome Blues reckon we smashed it.
In hindsight, is Talor a better choice than Tobyn(small fwd's with weird names) if we had the choice? Which players do they resemble in playing style?

I'm glad we avoided the 2nd. tier KPP's, Thredgold was the last bankable one.

One of the rare occasions where we were ahead of the curve imo. Ratten's list build would have dominated in todays game with a bit more refining.
Prime Murphy would be insane in today's game.
Ah so we dont find out Elijahs fate until Dec?!
We'll have a better understanding once we know who the club has invited for pre-season training. There's a chance Elijah may not be invited at all.

Pretty similar in my book....iirc Murray played more as a mid for falcons in the CTL as Taylor did for the rebels. Murray played as a forward for cats VFL and Byrne for Vic country, both good at ground level and in the air and know where the goals are. Murray has a big tank. Not sure what Byrnes 2km time was but seems to also have a good tank....Murray is a bit taller but Byrne has an impressive vertical leap.

Byrne is super competitive and November birthdate so only just turned 18.
