So in accordance with the rules, were we not able to get our 26 F2 back from GC as part of the trade yesterday?

Not 100% but I think we could have but would have required AFL review and sign off to confirm they were separate deals

I think the club realised that we finally have a competent GM of Football that can actually string two sentences together without any awkward smiling or nervous laughter - so the club is happy to use him in the media to convey our messaging.
That's a great self-evaluation, thanks Chris.

He’s been on our list for two years. In that time he’s been best 22 for one season, and of that one season he was possibly best 10 for a handful of games. In his time at the Gold Coast he was rarely best 10 and on occasion found himself outside of the best 22.

I realise there are reasons behind this situation. But we are now talking about a player over an extended period of time who has rarely hit the top 10 on his club’s list. 17 other clubs had the chance to bite in the trade period and none of them did.

To me, he is more of a mirage than anything at this stage. Right now I would say the shape of the list means we don’t need him and the development of our younger players means we don’t need him either.

As I say, I am happy for him to have a year in the VFL to prove himself.

Im not sure that argument stacks up.

In 2024 he was best 22 that whole time. In 2025 he missed most of the year but played when available. Hes been best 22 the whole time with us.

Taking into account the significant headwinds we faced (harsher bidding system and WCE/Richmond hell bent on making teams pay for tied players), I’m pretty happy with how we played the draft.

We secure the best KPD in the draft when we desperately needed another one. A kid who bleeds blue. He’ll be determined and aggressive.

We essentially secured Ison for nothing in the end. An excellent size and inside 50 kick.

Byrne is a speculative pick but we clearly earmarked him a way out and hopefully he can be an improvement over some of the others we’ve seen at small forward.

Got the North F2 which will be quite valuable for upgrading F1s if we need to as part of the Walker pursuit. GC F2 also might come in handy in this regard.

One list spot left over which will hopefully be for a key position back up.

100%

Lij is an absolute no brainer IF he ticks every single box over summer.

There’s some faint promising signs but it’s very early. A year in the VFL is ridiculous, he has this pre-season, that’s it. And he’ll have competition.

As Tommy Hafey would say …
We just need someone to kick the damn thing !!

All 3 draftees good left footed kicks.

Jagga good kick
Hayward good kick
Florent good kick(until his off year this year)
Ainsworth good kick
Chesser good kick
