And a song to sing as we watch,

Hey Matty Clarke by Kevin (Random260) Wilson :

Hey Matty Clarke you campaigner, where the **** is Sharp
I’ve looked at all these other spuds and there’s no one that I like
I wrote you a ****ing letter and posted about it twice
You dopey ****ing Richmond fart, you forgot my ****ing Sharp

If I wanted a stupid ruckman type, I would’ve bloody asked
And this half back flank and temu mid, you can shove right up your arse
You’ve stuffed the bloody order up, it’s enough to make you spew
But it’s not just me who’s snakey, SGIO is dirty too

Next time I come to see ya, I’m going to punch you in the guts
And I’ll sack the other recruiting knobs and kick Toddy in the nuts
You just wait 'til next year when you go back to the draft
And me and me little GIO come stomping through the door
And we'll say, yeah, you wait for it

Hey Pyke and Woosh you smell his breath
And check his bloodshot eyes
And don't listen to him eagles fans 'cause he tells ****ing lies
He's just a ****ing useless campaigner and he's not even very bright
'Cause the stupid ****in' w***er, forgot me ****in' Sharp

Hey Matty Clarke you campaigner, where the **** is Sharp
I’ve looked at all these other spuds and there’s no one that I like
I wrote you a ****ing letter and posted about it twice
You dopey ****ing Richmond fart, you forgot my ****ing Sharp

It's funny how it interrupted the lyrics XD

So a question for all the colts affeciendos - if you had just 1 spot for Evans or Banfield or Rodriguez - who would you take?

Its between Evans and Banfield. Than later is more reliable across a variety of roles while Evans has the ceiling.

Would take Kelly above Rodriguez but that's largely down to prioritising strength at the content and clean hands over Fred's kicking.

I imagine if you wound the clock back 12 months and said we’d have duursma, CDT, Lindsay and Fred on our list in 12 months time you wouldn’t have believed it.
My reaction would have been "wow, just how bad will the Eagles be in 2025 to get all those high draft picks" and while we ended up with players like LIndsay and Fred who slid for various reasons, the answer was - incredibly bad!

Love the draft haul......one thing I really like is that our top 4 picks have all played footy together, and if you watch Duursma, CDT or Lindsays highlights, it's obvious that they already know each other's games, running patterns and kicking areas.

Also, does anyone else see a bit of Cousins in Fred?

When you are in rebuilding mode anybody over 30 who is a fringe best 20 selection should be retired, not extended. With the one exception being if they play a position where you don't have multiple young players coming through anytime in the next year or two who can play that position. So Cripps should be retired IMO. He doesn't add anything that is significantly above what the next best young small forward will be able to contribute over the next year or two.
So, do what North did?

How'd that work out for them?

A decade later and still utter filth.

Whether you like it or not, Cripps was our leading goal kicker this year, not exactly a fringe selection. The club also views and values players very differently internally to what fans do.

It’s a turn up that it’s the rookie pick that lands us a physical, contested ball winning clearance player who also lays tackles. He was up against it in the champs so lower possession counts than expected in a midfield that was getting pantsed.

Great character, work ethic and hardness will be a good chance of thriving in an AFL environment as he’s a hard worker. I bloody love this selection for us. Go well Fred!

The trading of STK F2 and the diabolical list spot situation that cost us Charlie Banfield remain big concerns for me in list management yet again. Evans and Walley I’m not too fussed about.

In saying that, if you’d told me post champs we’d walk away with Duursma, CDT, Lindsay, Rodriguez, Allen and TWilliams I would have been pretty bloody happy.

A real head scratcher for me is how we apparently we able to pass on more picks in the rookie draft. It implies we had more list spots.

Also worth noting that North have tried to remediate that with the recruitment of Darling and Parker.

Don't we have three spots available for Dev and co that will be filled once they can sign?

The West Australian is reporting that we have declined to take Wes Walley even though we have a spot available for him.

Pretty sure it was just badly reported, not that we passed.

It's because we haven't officially added Robertson, Macrae or Schoenberg yet - we can't until the SSP period opens (then we'll likely just register them straight away). So officially we had four spots open, in reality, we had one.

Duursma, CDT, Lindsay, Allen, Fred

Thats some sort of haul. Our strategy is horrible but Massey is cooking with his actual selections.

With the picks we had we were always going to start well and we did.

Lindsay is a grewt pick, a bigger steal at that pick than Beu was last year. And him and CDT being close may have been a factor. So good pick.

Sam Allen is where we we took more risk, and I say that simply because he is coming off an acl injury. He has a very impressive resume and character, elite athletic traits and leadership. A balanced mid leaning more outside.

If Allen reaches his full potential or Rodreguez become a gun, that where this draft could land our biggest wins.

Thats a ridiculous simplification. North have been bad at a whole lot of things for a long period of time. Drafting, coaching, development etc. To try and boil where they are now all down to retiring players over 30 a year or two earlier than they wanted to go over the last 5 - 8 years is absurd. As if they would be in the top 8 by now had they just hung on to all those old players who have retired in the last 5 - 8 years for an extra year.

Cripps kicked a goal a game in 2025. Hardly irreplaceable.

We would still be rolling out NicNat, Hurn and Shuey if it was up to you.

Good on the Eagles for taking this kid... It makes sense to take an actual highly rated mid!

Maybe the external pressure actually got them to do the obvious thing 🤔
If he we highly rated, he wouldn't have lasted until the rookie draft...

Having said that, I hope he comes out with a point to prove and kills it.

And we couldn’t add them today in the RD because they didn’t nominate for the draft - so we could sign them in the SSP without risking another club taking them
