And a song to sing as we watch,

Hey Matty Clarke by Kevin (Random260) Wilson :

Hey Matty Clarke you campaigner, where the **** is Sharp
I’ve looked at all these other spuds and there’s no one that I like
I wrote you a ****ing letter and posted about it twice
You dopey ****ing Richmond fart, you forgot my ****ing Sharp

If I wanted a stupid ruckman type, I would’ve bloody asked
And this half back flank and temu mid, you can shove right up your arse
You’ve stuffed the bloody order up, it’s enough to make you spew
But it’s not just me who’s snakey, SGIO is dirty too

Next time I come to see ya, I’m going to punch you in the guts
And I’ll sack the other recruiting knobs and kick Toddy in the nuts
You just wait 'til next year when you go back to the draft
And me and me little GIO come stomping through the door
And we'll say, yeah, you wait for it

Hey Pyke and Woosh you smell his breath
And check his bloodshot eyes
And don't listen to him eagles fans 'cause he tells ****ing lies
He's just a ****ing useless campaigner and he's not even very bright
'Cause the stupid ****in' w***er, forgot me ****in' Sharp

Hey Matty Clarke you campaigner, where the **** is Sharp
I’ve looked at all these other spuds and there’s no one that I like
I wrote you a ****ing letter and posted about it twice
You dopey ****ing Richmond fart, you forgot my ****ing Sharp
A Quick Ai rendition: https://suno.com/s/blQP3cSnulhqYb5g
It's funny how it interrupted the lyrics XD

Love the draft haul......one thing I really like is that our top 4 picks have all played footy together, and if you watch Duursma, CDT or Lindsays highlights, it's obvious that they already know each other's games, running patterns and kicking areas.

Also, does anyone else see a bit of Cousins in Fred?

Fred has played with Duurs, Lindsay, CDT in the Aus Marsh Academy too. Lots of connections amongst our crop

I defended the Kelly trade
I defended the gimp wing
I defended the credits crew
I defended the pick 3 for blowies trade
I defended the Nick Martin miss
I defended the Yeo extension
I defended Ryan for peanuts
I defended Chesser for peanuts

But I can’t defend not picking up Banfield and Evans
Stop the press, have you told WC how this has impacted you, they need to know.......do it now!

Not a very coherent reply, but I think he's saying that they only wanted to take 5 main list spots and would stick to their order (which they did, meaning Banfield and Evans weren't as good in their eyes as the guys they selected).

Fair enough. We have to remember that they assess talent across the league, not just in individual drafts. This draft was shallow, the club obviously thought Evans and Banfield were rookie level talents.

I imagine if you wound the clock back 12 months and said we’d have duursma, CDT, Lindsay and Fred on our list in 12 months time you wouldn’t have believed it.

I get what your saying, but isn't this also something the club's been criticised for with the likes of Chesser having better underage years than draft years?

DIfference I guess is Duursma went on with it while Fred is a rookie. Baby steps!

No mate the whole squad would be another year older. We have only introduced 6 - 18 yr old players to our list this year. Stop exaggerating the youth angle. The other 5 players we’ve brought on board are all older and experienced.
Banfield should be on our list right now bar obvious poor list management choices.
Including the incoming Dev/Macrae/Schoenberg cohort, we have 47 blokes on our list.

As of today, 22 of them are 21 or under.

We are astonishingly young, the linear passage of time doesn’t instantly cure that.

So multi sources have stated we have 3 SSP players to add to the rookie list.

Here are the changes that I have summarised. The start point was the end of 2025 with the 2 additions in the MSD to take us to 6. We now have 38 seniors (max), 8 rookies (max) and 1 Cat B (single vacancy)

lol. Nonanswer if I have ever heard

"We need maturity on the list". Signing him to the rookie list doesn't mean he leaves the club
Agreed. He didn't answer the question at all. It didn't change the list profile at all except mean you had an opportunity to take an extra pick IF the player you liked was there. It seems like that were locked into the 5 senior list spots to the draft and were inflexible to moving away from that position which is very strange.

Brisbane were scum stealing out NGA player and targeting the bottom team from possibly finding a few AFL players through the rookie list ..Saints as well swooping like vultures on aF,S Prospect .Not too mention ****ing Freo campaigners bidding on Williams ..

Or Waterman perhaps,
Oh, I'm hoping Waterman kicks 50+.

Hopefully Shanahan kicks 30+ also.

Our small forward situation ain't that great though unfortunately. Fingers crossed Champion can improve his tank. I like the way he goes about it, just doesn't have the required fitness yet.

Tell me who you’d have preferred from the list spots we had? I believe we cooked

Pushing Cripps to the rookie list would reduce flexibility for next year though. And would have made it hard to take Robertson, Macrae and Schoenberg (which is the maturity thing).

I'm feeling that a lot of people just can't modify the idea they had in their heads that we were absolutely taking Banfield/Evans, and since we didn't, it has to be a ****-up - when it's just execution of the pre-draft strategy.

Im with you, but trying to be positive now it’s all wrapped up.

I’ve melted across this draft despite saying I wouldn’t and I still maintain the belief that our list management division needs improvement.

But these kids are eagles now and I’m hoping under minis leadership we can develop all of them into best 21 players that do all the things required of the modern game.

Williams is a class above Mally so that helps

No problem with what they did. We did it to ourselves by not having the list positions despite coming off a 1 win season with a team full of spuds.

Those pricks made me do it. They forced me to sign up to that stupid 'behind the scenes of the draft' newsletter thing so I can watch Mini tell the Duursma's he's going number one..sorry to the poor bloke who's mobile number I used to fill the form in with :tearsofjoy:

No all it meant was additional flexibility so we COULD have matched a bid if we WANTED to. It doesn't reduce any list flexibility next year given the volume of out of contract players. That is simply incorrect.

These are tools at their disposal to maximise the chances to get the best talent they rank. So yes, basically they could have done better. It might not have changed the result but the best operators would maximise their options and that's what some on this board simply fail to understand.

Thought I'd count number of first rounders each club has taken in the last 5 drafts. Pretty surface level analysis and doesn't account for where those picks were taken.

Crows - 7
Lions - 7
Collingwood - 3
Carlton - 4
Geelong - 3
Freo - 4
GWS - 11
Gold Coast - 11
Essendon - 7
North - 9
Sydney - 5
Dogs - 6
Tigers - 9
Eagles - 8
STK - 6
Hawks - 7
Port - 3
Melbourne - 8
