And a song to sing as we watch,

Hey Matty Clarke by Kevin (Random260) Wilson :

Hey Matty Clarke you campaigner, where the **** is Sharp
I’ve looked at all these other spuds and there’s no one that I like
I wrote you a ****ing letter and posted about it twice
You dopey ****ing Richmond fart, you forgot my ****ing Sharp

If I wanted a stupid ruckman type, I would’ve bloody asked
And this half back flank and temu mid, you can shove right up your arse
You’ve stuffed the bloody order up, it’s enough to make you spew
But it’s not just me who’s snakey, SGIO is dirty too

Next time I come to see ya, I’m going to punch you in the guts
And I’ll sack the other recruiting knobs and kick Toddy in the nuts
You just wait 'til next year when you go back to the draft
And me and me little GIO come stomping through the door
And we'll say, yeah, you wait for it

Hey Pyke and Woosh you smell his breath
And check his bloodshot eyes
And don't listen to him eagles fans 'cause he tells ****ing lies
He's just a ****ing useless campaigner and he's not even very bright
'Cause the stupid ****in' w***er, forgot me ****in' Sharp

Hey Matty Clarke you campaigner, where the **** is Sharp
I’ve looked at all these other spuds and there’s no one that I like
I wrote you a ****ing letter and posted about it twice
You dopey ****ing Richmond fart, you forgot my ****ing Sharp

It's funny how it interrupted the lyrics XD

That's exactly what happened though, so it's indeed 'fact'.

Not sure what alternate universe you're living in, tbh.
Nope, it's not Banfield vs Fred - because we literally gave ourselves zero chance to match Banfield's bid.
It should have been both if our list management was somewhat competent.

I’d continue explaining why you're wrong, but I don't have enough patience or crayons.
Into the mute bin you go

It's much better for development to have 2 of those blokes starting in the middle in the WAFL. Next to no chance more than one plays seniors at the same time, IMO.

Will be very good for the likes of Gross and Rodriguez to play midfield without being expected to be the primary ballwinner because they're surrounded by ammos.

If we've actually recruited 3 players from other clubs to play full-time for the Beagles, we're in much, much more trouble than I think many realise (including me).

What part of 'We only ever planned to take 1 of the club tied prospects in the ND' can you not wrap your head around?

Lose argument miserably because you're mad about a player you like not getting drafted late in the ND and throw insults, then spit the dummy.

Classic :thumbsu:

I expect 2 of them to, because they're all similar types.

We have no other avenues to bring in mature talent to play WAFL, due to the list constraints on our WAFL side.

The extra rookie spots were all but guaranteed to be used for that purpose.

But hey, they may surprise and be AFL capable. That's a win, if so.

Pretty rare for any club to get consistent best 22 players from the rookie list when competing for flags though.

Not a very coherent reply, but I think he's saying that they only wanted to take 5 main list spots and would stick to their order (which they did, meaning Banfield and Evans weren't as good in their eyes as the guys they selected).

Fair enough. We have to remember that they assess talent across the league, not just in individual drafts. This draft was shallow, the club obviously thought Evans and Banfield were rookie level talents.
SK and Brisbane didn’t, and Brisbane is a better assessor of talent than our incoherent group.

WC currently viewed as a carcass to pick the eyes out of, and our recruiters are so confused they don’t know what is going on or how to stop it.

Agreed. He didn't answer the question at all. It didn't change the list profile at all except mean you had an opportunity to take an extra pick IF the player you liked was there. It seems like that were locked into the 5 senior list spots to the draft and were inflexible to moving away from that position which is very strange.
Bureaucrats have to stick to rules, leaders lead.

My theory.

We know Geelong will pick up Walley next year now.

But instead, we actually send over Winder with bleached hair to destroy the whole city of Geelong from within.

It's brilliant.

They've picked 1 decent player in recent years outside the top 20(Logan Morris).

The rest were first rounders for being shit, NGA prospects for being an AFL charity club and father sons/trades.

The rest are senior players who've been on the list a long time.

They also gave up on their own NGA in Prindable.

Welcome to the bottom of the ladder.

They probably have Winder's photo up around town already after last time unfortunately :(

I suggest the bullsheet call of splitting picks for local WA talent can now be put to bed.

Our list profile by state:
WA 21 (45%)
Vic 20 (43%)
SA 4 (9%)
Qld nil (but not through lack of trying)
NSW 1 (2%)
Tas nil
NT 1 (2%)

Of the Vic talent, 10 country, 6 Metro and 4 other channels

The really odd thing about this year's draft was the lack of talent from Sandringham. 2 drafted and they were at pick 34 and 50. The Dragons are normally the barometer and when they are strong, the draft is usually called a strong one.

Just on Walley. Some immature behaviour during the year has obviously come back and haunted him.
This is also a problem with Indigenous talent.

Its not all about the talent as they have it in spades.
Sometimes its about the family dynamics, where they come from and heaps of other facors.

What I will say is I just watched the Tylar Williams video of Champion and Dewar visiting the Wiliams family after he was drafted and I know his grandfather from many moons ago.
He comes from a family that are high quality individuals, very good sporting family.

His grandfather was a very good player back in the day and probably a better golfer these days.
To get on an AFL list they not only need talent but the desire to succeed and strong family behind them.
This is the case for all AFL players but especially Indigenous players.

We ended up with some pretty talented players and I’m a big fan of our haul.

Our list strategy though is way too rigid and amateur.

“Oh we can only take five 18 year olds”
“Nah we couldn’t bid on Patterson earlier because we didn’t actually rank him that high even though it is advantageous to what we’re trying to do”
“We need experience on the senior list so we couldn’t send Cripps to the Rookie List”

No flexibility and no creativity in our list strategy.

Shh, you're not allowed to say this.

Remember when Simmo brought it up after the Covid cuts and everyone in the media shit on him for it?

I'm curious about the bidding thing though. As was brought up, no club has ever bid 3 consecutive times.

Of course, we could've alleviated that by bidding on Patterson instead of Dean but perhaps we really didn't rank him as high as HD/CDT.

Lots of dodgy stuff goes on behind closed doors at the AFL I'm sure.

After refreezing overnight and having some time to muse over the events of the past 2 days C minus is about the right assessment of the drafting this year.

Duursma as good as he is is behind Uwland Dean & Annable possibly Patterson. Reality is he's a pick 4 maybe pick 5 in an uncompromised draft. I know blokes don't want to hear it and the truth hurts but it is what it is. Looking at the family history in the AFL thus far he'll be a solid if unspectacular HBFer with potential to go through the midfield.

CDT is a massive reach. Does he ruck? Does he go forward? Brander Mk2? Generally speaking big lads need a looooong time to get going and CDT is as raw as they get. Not expecting any impact until 2027 at best. Unicorns are rare and unicorns who deliver are even rarer.

Lindsay is a good pickup. Solid citizen with a dardy boot. The manner in which he arrived was diabolical at worst and comical at best. Unparallelled foolishness from the clowns crunching the numbers. Anyone thinking it was some carefully organised heist needs a drug test and lie down.

Allen one from left field. Numbers stack up prior to the ACL. Outside mid with strengths in endurance and athleticism ticks the box. Could be a Chesser or could be a Gaff who can jump.

Williams i'm not convinced on. Far too small for AFL footy.

Fred Rodriguez good pickup. Alarming he slid all the way to the rookie draft but happy to have at least one full time mid picked up.

The less said about the tomfoolery with Banfield & Evans the better. Club has got a long way to go to rebuild the relationship with supporters. 2 spoons in 3 years a single win season the '24 trade fiasco and then amatuer behaviour during this draft is wearing many thin. Get it together or get gone.

Good summary of the sad tale of what happened.

He was universally ranked number 1 in every single mock draft and power rankings beforehand. Some had him in a tier on his own.

And how come Duursmas family history is relevant but Uwlands isnt? Or Annable and Patterson whose siblings aren't good enough to make AFL?

Mind boggling

Because these blokes are a bunch of sad sacks that the player they attached themselves to the entire year didn't get drafted and now the sky is falling.

It's nothing more than that.

Happens every year. It's so obnoxious.

I don't know if it's Reid-fatigue, but I'm surprised there's not more hype about how good Duursma looks.

Instead of blowing your lid off of no info, go back and read posts around 1:30pm and you'll see it's suggested he missed training sessions and didn't take it seriously this year.

You want to reward someone with that attitude a spot, or let them prove themselves over the summer and add them before the season starts if they pull their finger out?
Why did they then say they would register him without any promises which was what was reported.

If they had no intention of picking him up which appears to be the case, why weren’t they honest with him and told him this and why?
