Confirmed ITK Drafting King
Another crap decision is picking Lyon over Webster. Spin bowling gonna be irrelevant in this match and an extra 40-50 runs could be the difference. England selection was braver than ours again.

He's at least got an ability to dig in which is what we need. Think the most accomplished of the openers outside the test team. Sure not a star but we need a transitional opener to carry this team through till we get the next round of batters that are there for the long term.Whoever we bring in it's all just shuffling deck chairs
No one in the domestic scene can save this batting
Renshaw for Ussie would be the only change and even he's not some brilliant batsman

For sure, but Jeez there's some improvement needed. And it really isn't a surprise.Lets wait and see what they dish up in their second dig before we declare the Ashes lost
Moved past him for who though?
You’re closer to it than you thinkFocus on "Talent Pathways"???
Talent pathways have been around for years and years and years and years....its called Premier cricket in each state/territory, followed by the national underage championships, then 2nd XI state cricket followed by First-Class cricket.
The problem I think is T20 cricket. Play enough of it (T20) and it becomes muscle memory - see ball....hit ball. Lots of batters don't want to put a price on their wicket.
In terms of preperation: I remember in the golden era of Australian cricket (1990s/early to mid 2000s)....visiting teams to Australia would play a state team. It was a tour natch but still a First-Class match. It provided a few positives:
1. Visiting team played against a quality state team.
2. State team playing against an international team.
3. Good warm up for visiting team.....red ball cricket.
These types of games don't happen anymore and its a shame. A terrible shame. Same with Australia when playing overseas - they would play against a state/county team....a tour match (First-Class match), red ball cricket.
but only one type of batsman and soft as butter.I stead he went into survival mode again which is what he looked like up until his domestic form this year. Played with a much more offensive mindset too scored his hundreds at a good clip. Channel that mindset into these bowlers. Attack when they go short and unload on anything over pitched. So channel that form then and look to score.
Ashes isn't lost but this test certainly isLets wait and see what they dish up in their second dig before we declare the Ashes lost
Yeah, well we'll have to disagree on who threw their wickets away. I'll say Head, Green, Carey and Starc. But it's not Starc's primary job to make runs.No rush but runs were hard to come by due to the life of the pitch and the Pommie bowlers putting us under pressure with their relentless pace ambush in those first 25 overs. The ECB did their homework by picking an all pace attack. I reckon only Alex Carey and Travis Head, he a touch unlucky, gave away their wickets. Carey tho had a brain fog as had he forgotten that the deep third man had been placed specifically for the uppercut. And he had been batting beautifully before that. Fair to say a crafty Stokes played him like a fiddle.
He's not under pressure because what else is there? you have to admit he's all duck no dinner though there's very little nuance to his game, in stronger batting eras he would come under scrutiny.
That could sum up most of our batsmen, all fur coat, no knickers. He's not under pressure because what else is there? you have to admit he's all duck no dinner though there's very little nuance to his game, in stronger batting eras he would come under scrutiny.
2 were consistently at 145 plus. Carse and Atkinson are your regular pace bowlers with the odd bowl sent down at 140 odd. Carse has bounce though because of his height which makes him difficult to handle. Atkinson I thought was equally as good as the others. Monotonous line every over.Bingo.
You get one bowler going at 145k + & everyone loses their marbles.
This England side has 4.
Aussies copped some serious heat today, & they weren’t ready for it.
Think having a suspect technique has worked for Bazball so maybe we fight fire with fire and have an attacking brute just take it to them from the start. Pump anything not good line or length. Keep Weathereld and have Marsh with him. Have Green at number 3, Smith 4 and Head, Webster next. It's a short term solution because of respective ages of the top 6 but it will keep us competitive until we find a permanent solution.Should have opened with Mitch Marsh, even 6 beers deep he probably would've batted better than the rest of the Aussie line up.
Mark Wood said he is the Aussie batsman he most fears bowling to.
I liked the Weatherald selection but that dismissal looked like he’d never faced someone that quick in his life. They will charge in at him like there’s no tomorrow all series
So far, it's a replica of the start to the India series.Lets wait and see what they dish up in their second dig before we declare the Ashes lost
No one has patience or seems to like blooding at national level in this country, so we'll be debuting 30 plus year olds forever.Just pick young blokes and stick with them for a while.
There needs to be a proper inquisition to this rabble of an Aust side..
Absolutely 0 planning and forethought on preparing an Ashes team, we've just picked tired blokes on reputation, who's best mates with who and who thinks they are still good enough.
Where have been the batsmen 2-3 years out putting proper claims in to get a spot.
Where are the young tear-away quicks coming through so we dont have to rely on plodders like a 35yo Boland and Dogget?
Why did we play Nafan Lyon? the guy is totally past it and offers nothing.
Just a total shit show, Aust cricket team on the pathway to being the Wallabies, total laughing stock.
Played and won a golf tournament
Head hasn't been able to buy a run in a year. Green had Carey with him and a half hour to get through to stumps. Knowing we were into a soft tail he had a huge swing at one.
The runs did not matter at that stage.
Carey played a dumb shot but he was down to Lyon and friends. A calculated risk to try and add a quick 20-30 and get back to touching distance. He stuffed up but it was in context at least.
Based on yesterday, doesn’t seem like anyone’s up to fighting hard. We've got to really fight hard in our second dig, to at least try to put some miles into Archer and Wood.
If they're only gunna bowl a handful of overs each innings then they're only gunna need to play 3 tests.
That'll be the first 3.
