Delisted Callum Ah Chee - Joins Adelaide via the PSD

The fact that very few people outside Lions & disgruntled Port supporters thought the Crows were being unreasonable is central to this thread.

Again it's very lost on you that the Northern academies create a different valuation of draft picks. Anyone with critical thinking ability knows this.
The journo's and the footy commentators are the equivalent of the pub test. If most think it, its probably fair

Don’t really care why the crows wouldn’t do it tbh, just take issue with the assertion we wanted a first rounder clean.

I mentioned you wanted a first rounder- I never said you wanted it clean. Don't know why you got a bee in your bonnet.

Secondly, a slide back is still giving up a first rounder especially if it means missing out on the player they wanted. Since they only took 2 players in the draft, they both didn't rate the draft and had limited list spaces. Hence them keeping 16 was important. This is why the trade failed.. it was unrealistic to want them to involve a 1st rounder in a shallow draft when they had limited list spaces and would have missed on a player they wanted. My point... It was a tricky situation hence the trade not getting done. I don't think either team acted in bad faith. It was just one of those ones where both teams couldn't walk away happy-ish.

And another point.. involving a 1st rounder even as part of a slide back is unrealistic for a player who would be in the bottom half of the best 22 at your club. Just because the sum parts of the trade ends as a value in the 20s doesn't mean it's a good and fair trade. 1st rounders being involved are reserved for star players or upper echelon players.

How are the Crows looking for the main draft? Surely they get that desperately needed elite midfielder right? A Uwland or Annable type?

In Reid we trust.

Reid isn’t talent ID, Hamish Ogilvie heads that department. Has been ok recently, but had a shocking run with first rounders a few years ago. Still hasn’t drafted a decent mid in the first round though. Fingers crossed for Sid Draper but won’t be surprised if we Chayce Jones him.

4 years with a trigger - standard term when trading a player in.
$1.4 Year one
$650 ± years 2,3 4 = total contract of $837,500 per season - not that unreasonable in the current market and CBA.

For comparison, you're paying Oscar Allen "over $900k" per season, so lets call that $950k, over the last two years he's managed to scrape together 11 and 12 game seasons, so going off form you will be paying him $82,608.70 (on average) per game.

Ah Chee has managed 26 games per year the last two, so going off form we will be paying him $32,211.54 (on average) per game. Apples and oranges really.

$840k is ridiculous money for a role player like him. He’s a good addition, but he’s a $500k-$600k player. Wouldn’t want to be overpaying many more to that level, it’ll eventually cost us.

Saying we wanted a first rounder is incorrect in the first place, we weren’t gaining a first rounder in that scenario. We wanted an upgrade of an existing first rounder that we already had.

Whatever reasons Adelaide had for not doing that is up to them.

We would have done the trade had it not included the F2, all the clubs outside of GCS and Brisbane actually value 2nd rounders.

If Adelaide could actually add something to the competition like Brisbane do maybe the afl would fix the competition for you too. Something to think about in the offseason Crouchy.

The comp was actually kept afloat at one point by Adelaide, and the opposite is true for Brisbane. Also, weird flex to admit that your team is a charity case because otherwise its fair-weather supporters would bail.

Don’t know how any Brisbane supporters could look at the Ah Chee mess and not admit their club f***ed up. Yeah, if Ah Chee went to WC or port than fair enough, but with hindsight we know Brisbane essentially said have Ah Chee for nothing. Understandable that you guys are so salty about it, but time to admit it was a mistake, right?

Brisbane and West Coast effectively saved the VFL/AFL by joining the competition in 1987.

We’re not a charity case, the AFL has fixed the comp to allow us to win flags because of what we add to the product. The AFL needs the lions more than the Lions needs the AFL.

Seriously ? Nobody cares that Cal left for nothing as we don’t need him or pick 40.
We have so much depth in the squad it’s actually hard to fit a lot of players in the 1’s

Dom has built a list that's won back to back premierships and is currently favourites for 2026. I think he's sleeping fine at night.
He has Marcus Ashcroft and the AFL to thank for that.

He himself has barely had to do anything. He's drafted 1 player(Morris) in recent years outside the top 20 who's not club tied that's any good.

Could probably just automate his job at this rate.

He's the list manager, not the recruiting manager.

He's made trades to bring in the likes of Cameron, Neale, McCarthy, Ah Chee, Dunkley, Fort and Hodge, as well as Daniher, Lyons, Draper and Allen as free agents.
