Delisted Callum Ah Chee - Joins Adelaide via the PSD

He's the list manager, not the recruiting manager.

He's made trades to bring in the likes of Cameron, Neale, McCarthy, Ah Chee, Dunkley, Fort and Hodge, as well as Daniher, Lyons, Draper and Allen as free agents.

And finding the points for all the father sons and academy in every trade period so Stephen Conole can do his drafting part.

Sounds like he's barely had to do anything indeed. More like fell upwards for a few of those blokes.

Might need to find a new recruiting manager though.

At the bare minimum he'll know how to maintain enough list spots to not let a Koby Evans or Charlie Banfield slip through though. We'll survive somehow mate, thank you

With your club's recent strike rate of picks outside the first round who aren't club tied, I'm not particularly worried.

Hahaha, now I've seen everything, a Weagles supporter throwing barbs about draft strike rate, now that’s rich. Mate, we don’t need to rely on lottery tickets in the second and third rounds when our first-round picks keep delivering, every time.

And just quietly… Lohmann and Morris would like to say hi. Quality.

So maybe save the draft lectures until Evans and Curtin don’t end up embarrassing your so-called draft gurus.

Of course you don't need to rely on 'lottery' tickets, you been gifted father son and academy picks after the AFL took over your total basket case of a club.

Blind Freddy could've done the job.

Nobody is suggestinh Dom Ambrogio is anything other than an excellent operator but on this particular trade he did get it very wrong. Nobody's perfect all the time not even Dom.

He has Marcus Ashcroft and the AFL to thank for that.

He himself has barely had to do anything. He's drafted 1 player(Morris) in recent years outside the top 20 who's not club tied that's any good.

Could probably just automate his job at this rate.

Tbf Morris, lohmann and wilmot have been smart picks.*

*Again a lot easier to take “risks” at the draft with your actual open picks tho when you know youve got top 5 talents just waltzing through the door every year for sweet FA

If You want a true idea of how “accomplished Dom is at “building” a list check out his record at the Gold Coast before he joined brissie tho…. Handed top 10 picks on a platter (but there he still had to actually pick the players)- in which case he proceeded to balls up most of them.

His 2016 draft haul of 4 top 10’s was a particular highlight

Brisbane fans taking the news well I see.
Imagine if Bailey joins us for free too.

Restricted free agent mate, if he chooses to go and we match the offer then a trade has to be struck. AFL will mediate don't worry.

Was this Blind Freddy a list manager of yours? One of arguably the greatest trade overreaches of all time and as I remember and around the time West Coast's credibility hit the iceberg.

"Kelly delivered an incredible two-year stint for Geelong after being plucked from the WAFL as a 24-year-old electrician at the end of 2017. Overlooked by the Eagles at pick 21 for Oscar Allen (now the competition's best emerging key forward), the South Fremantle product arrived at the Cattery at pick No.24.

In a three-way trade that involved a bit-part from Essendon (full details below), the Eagles parted with two first-round picks (14 and a future first-round selection, which fell at No.18 in 2020) and selections No.24 and No.33. It was the biggest of its kind, and based on the AFL Draft Value Index, equated to more than pick No.2 when the picks shuffled back at the draft due to free agency compensations and Academy selections.

In return, the Eagles got Kelly, pick 52 and a 2020 third round selection. Geelong got No.14, the future first (No.18 in 2020), 24 and 37."

So you paid for lamb, got mutton, Geelong got Jezza and now we have OA too, what an utter $hit show. Enjoy the wilderness, you got there all by yourselves.

What's that got to do with our current list management team and football department?

I'm just comparing Dom's record to our current team.

Some of his decisions over the journey would make Scott Clayton look like a genius.

It's about your whining over us getting a leg up when in reality you guys' fell of your perch, got up and then fell over again.

Not sure how you're misunderstanding this so badly when I've previously stated our previous list management was trash.

I'm merely observing that Dom's had 2 hits outside the top 20 in the better part of a decade that weren't academy/FS picks.

Please name the only two you believe are hits. And please break down the FS and academy selections as they are in no way related, everyone has access to father sons/daughters. You understand you still need to accumulate picks to get them right? Kind of gimps your draft hand.

Lets look at a very recent study in what the academies can do to develop elite talent that otherwise would have been lost.

Bruce Reville (born 22 February 2001)

Born in Port Moresby in 2001, Reville and his family migrated to Cairns, Queensland when he was age seven. They then moved to the coastal town of Burrum Heads and he played football with the local Burrum Joeys under-9 team. Reville then played for the Maryborough Bears, a half-hour drive from Burrum Heads.

Reville then moved to Brisbane and played local football for Sherwood Magpies AFC before being picked up in Brisbane Lions' Academy program in
2012. He played for Sherwood in the Queensland Australian Football League (QAFL) between 2016 and 2021 before joining Brisbane's Victorian Football League (VFL) team, the reserves side for the AFL team, in 2021.

Following his 2024 debut, Reville became the first Brisbane Lion to wear the number 38 in a senior AFL match.

Reville made his AFL debut in the round 8 QClash against Gold Coast at the Gabba. He collected 13 disposals and four marks in the rivalry win. Reville went on to play 12 games and kick four goals in the 2024 season, but did not play in Brisbane's premiership-winning finals series. Reville signed a contract extension to keep him at the Lions for a further year.

Reville was part of Brisbane's 2025 premiership side.

For those who just think academies are about cherry picking the most obvious local talent you have no idea of the foresight, trust and investment involved, in Bruce's case it was 12 years. Very few academy kids ever make it anyways but they add to the thin draft pool out there.

Northern academies get special rules in regards to zones and access to training that the AFL refuses to give the rest of the clubs.

It's not designed to be a level playing field, it's designed to give 4 clubs an unfair advantage to artificially ensure they are successful so people in those 2 states are more inclined to follow it from a younger age.

Now, it's clearly working in QLD with junior participation, which is a good thing. It's bad for the AFL that 4 clubs get such a massive leg up that's denied to 14 other clubs though.

Just look at WA, for instance. Unlike the Northern academies, WA has to self-fund their junior pathways and barely get any benefit out of it, whilst the northern clubs get the highest distribution of AFL funds alongside special rules to ensure they are successful.

Please don't try to claim Brisbane is some paragon of talent identification when the AFL has manufactured their current success, alongside the Gold Coast.

You only need to see how quickly father son and NGA rules were changes when Tom Hawkins and JUH both ended up at their respective clubs, yet Gold Coast get 9 first rounders in 3 years with junk picks generated by trading out middling players.

When an established football state has to whine about non-football states developing better talent it's an indictment on them. WA only accounted for one draftee in the top 30 I think I'm OK calling a strawman argument on this one. Flail around all you like but it's WA football that's broke, not the system. Collingwood and Geelong seem to do fine but I guess they don't have to travel much either.
