Training Pre-season 2026

watched a bit of a replay of the tigers vs freo at gather round over the weekend. the thing that stood out was the horrible errors we made that resulted in easy goals to freo. dropped marks, fumbles, missed un pressured handballs and kicks and missed tackles. it was like the whole year. we were a goal and a bit up 1/2 way thru the 2nd quarter and lost by 10 goals. 3-4 goals could have been stopped by basic skill improvement. we didn't have lalor, smilie, hotton, Armstrong, sims and gibcus playing. add picks 3 + 4 from this year and a lot of that problem could be gone. also tackles that were held but freo players were able to dispose of the ball to advantage. just need players to get stronger. effort was there, skills errors were a problem that lead to structure problems. easily fixed with the influx of talent to the team this year hopefully. will make us more competitive in games and give players confidence in the game plan. go tigers

This sounds quite stupid and low IQ to me. Flat out, run into the ground. I get it in this part of the rebuild but you need to be playing long term like Brisbane, peaking at the end and managing players. Especially these ones who are already injury prone.
They still have Dec - March to get the fitness right. Seems to be the plan is to train the ball handling and gameplan early and have the intensity be higher than a game for confidence purposes.

Not a bad plan, but need to make sure the conditioning comes in right so we arent going to repeat 2024.

Guess you’ve missed the point. The point being make the mistakes going flat out now. Only makes you better when the heat goes on.

Thanks to the great man for all his work and time

My sneaky like today at training today rather than throwing up the usual suspects was Kaleb Smith, the demand to move things on quickly could be the making of him??

Juddy: All the boys walked over and lined up over at rehab as Juddy officially joined rehab and did his first run through.

Simms: I took it as a good sign to see Simmsy wander onto the track in his runners for a walk around and a bit of a handball after recent foot surgery?

Lalor: Might be a little bit quicker than I thought?, although his sprinting drills were done solo, he seemed to be moving pretty swiftly.

Jasper: Won each of the 30 metre repeat sprint shuttles.

McAuliffe: Kane and Kaleb to me appear to have come back with the biggest body transformations.

Jonty: Still the standout tall on track and roosting bombs with a minimum of fuss.

Trainor: Couldn't be more impressed with his early showing.

Seth & Taj: Is were the magic happens.

I've left out my standout as I've already given him too much air time ;)

**Not stop flow is pretty much how they roll and the skills are getting better after shaking beginnings.

Someone run over your cat yesterday?
Don't talk about cats. A few years ago, I had a greyhound make the final of the sa oaks and drew box one and took another great dog for another race. I brought with me a young lad on a learner's so let him drive for a bit. On the way, he ran over a black cat, so we should have just turned back. She ran second last, and the other dog fought for the first time and was never the same. So to answer your question f the cats lol

Track Watch: Pre-Season Week Two

By Richmond Media
Nov 22, 2025,

Week two of the pre-season saw several veterans return to the Swinburne Centre, while our one-to-four year players continued their strong preparations for 2026.

Three-time premiership player, Nathan Broad, and 2025 Jack Dyer Medallist, Tim Taranto, made an early entry on Monday morning to complete their gym session away from the younger group, with their trademark focus and strength in tow.

Out on the Punt Road Oval, the first-to-four-year players began the week with some up-and-down pace running, with Assistant Coach, Chris Newman, and VFL Coach, Jack Madgen, even joining the group.

A simulated match drill on Monday saw players split up into two teams, wearing black and grey training tops. The drill started with a contest on the wing, with both teams fighting for possession to work the ball into their attacking 50.

A play from Kaleb Smith was a highlight, when he won the ball cleanly and finished the play off with an accurate kick, lacing out a lead from our new No.8, Jonty Faull.

Young gun Luke Trainor hasn't missed a beat, picking up right where he left off from his debut season, impressing on the track by leading the pack in sprinting drills. The 19-year-old was hard to miss, sporting brand-new bright orange Puma boots.

Later in the week, key utility Noah Balta was back on the track, joining Tom Lynch for an early morning running session. The endurance showcased by the pair was evident, with their strong running intent something fans can get excited about.

Just before the clock ticked over 8.30am on Friday, Hugo Ralphsmith, Jack Ross, and Ben Miller joined Lynch and Balta, all in a determined and focused mood as they continued their endurance training.

Most excitingly, Smith celebrated his 21st birthday, with the whole squad celebrating his day before training began.

Back out on the track, Samson Ryan was moving around nicely, lacing out kicks and taking strong overhead marks, whilst weaving around cones in a skills drill. The 24-year-old appeared to have recovered strongly from his foot injury that saw him miss a string of games this season.

High Performance Manager Ben Serpell took Sam Lalor, Harry Armstrong, Trainor, Jasper Alger, Liam Fawcett and Faull through their paces, conducting fast sprint drills from the pocket of Punt Road Oval. The youngsters didn’t take a backwards step as they took off from the start line with intent and purpose.

Pressure forward Rhyan Mansell impressed with his piercing kick and clean hands in a basic patterns drill. Fresh off an 18-goal season, Mansell was moving the ball effortlessly with his run and accurate kicking as the side practised transitioning the ball around the oval.

Seth Campbell was making sure everyone remained hydrated at a drinks break, where he was squirting Assistant Coach Chris Newman with his drink bottle, who remained rather unbothered by his antics.

Tom Brown looked strong in a seven vs five keeping off drill, moving into space and commanding the ball, then drilling the kick in transition. His work rate was on full display, as he followed up his kick down the line to receive a handball on the move.

Judson Clarke and Tom Sims were making inroads in the Club gym as they continued to work their way back from injury.

Tyler Sonsie brought the pressure to training on Friday, working hard off the ball in a diamond drill, making two intercept plays on the run.

The side finished the week with a light full oval scrimmage, where recruit Patrick Retschko showcased his elite run off the wing. The 19-year-old then pushed forward, gathering the ball cleanly from a spilled contest before creating space and calmly slotting a goal.

Pre-season is set to heat up next week, as the entire playing squad returns for our community and training camp in Yarrawonga and the surrounding areas.

Wise kid
We’ve got a ripper
Want to see how the game plan develops with the injection of speed and skill

Looks like a few players like Jonty and Jasper have come back in ripping form and ready to tear it up in the front half so with the ball coming at them at a fair rate of knots, I’m hoping we can capitise

Regardless, it’ll be fun to watch
