He'll be pretty important if used to his strengths, he's never gonna live up to the 'generational talent' bs of his draft year though that ship has well and truly sailed.
Especially since this will be his 8th year on a list and his ceiling has been "he's a good kick" but his goal kicking record sits at 53% sooo...

Even marshall has shown better form infront of the sticks

So you're saying players can't move clubs and go on to have successful careers?
I’m saying soft arse players are soft arse for life.
Now that’s not saying he can’t play some good games for Port as he’s a good mark and most probably one of if not our best shot at goals.
He’s one of those types that will frustrate supporters with his lack of desperation while having above average football skills.
You get what you see, that’s been his football life under a 3 time premiership coach.
Why would you expect any different?

There is no reason not to have athletes salaries public, would end any debate of who are doing third illegal party payments (cough Geelong)

The NFL does it well. Everyone knows the cap status at clubs and it all makes sense.

I never said what I was expecting, just that we should give the guy a chance rather than criticise him for being injured for the whole time he's been at the club.

And no, his "football life" has not been under a 3 time premiership coach.

You've already made your mind up about him, or let Hardwick do that for you. Fine, but I'm not going to write him off for second or third-hand opinions.

'Give a guy a chance'

Going into their 8th season with 123 games

How much more time does he need, he's not even the best player from his high school's year still.

He’s a 25 year old KPF (noting most KPFs take until around then to hit their straps) that’s:

1. played on shit Suns sides; and

2. been constantly moved all over the ground, preventing him from finding any real consistency in playing up forward during that time.

Then in his first season at Port he had to deal with a freak impact injury followed by subsequent soft tissue injuries while trying to rush back into Hinkley’s shit sandwich of a forwardline - and still managed to put in a good showing in 3/6 games.

All people are saying, is that it’s too early to crack the shits and give up on him. Before spewing this nonsense give him a full preseason, a (hopefully) functional forwardline / game plan, and more than three games in a row without injury so he has a chance to build form. It’s a very reasonable take, and I’m not sure why you’re so hellbent against it.

Maybe a season where he doesn't get a freak impact injury 2 minutes into his 2nd game?

It's not like he's Marshall where he's a stiff breeze away from another concussion layoff. He's not someone who has been injury prone throughout his career.

He’d actually been one of the most durable forwards in the league before last season. He was averaging around 18 games a year since his draft, which is pretty remarkable for a tall forward. But apparently the club was supposed to be omniscient and somehow know he’d have all his bad luck the moment we picked him up.

That's a by-product of avoiding contact lol

Plays in a very similar fashion to Todd. It will be a real bonus if one of them can elevate their game into a Westhoff/Matthew Richardson type role for the upcoming season.

Could happen. But I have a VERY strong feeling it won't. Just smells that way, big time. And if it walks like a duck and smells like a duck ...

There's a lot of discussion about how he's a failure already or he's got not chance of giving us good value.

What's his pass mark this year then? What do people think he should be achieving?
200 contested marks, 500 goals (pre-finals) and that might save him from being hung, drawn and quartered. If he could go back in time and win this year's Norm Smith, I reckon that would get him off my shit list.

As a Forward 50 player-- 35-40 goals with many assists to go with them.

as a high half forward- 30 goals and 80 inside 50s

He is still currently my buddy, should I take it easier on him?

30+ goals and a cog in a functioning forward line for me. I was going to say 40+ but then remembered Whitlock. If Georgiades, Whitlock and Lukosius can form a functioning, dynamic tall forward combination that could be pretty exciting. Be nice if we can get 20+ games out of each of them.

No I think this is pretty reasonable. His best season for the Suns was 2023, 39g 15ga 97i50 in 22 games.

I'd be expecting him to match or at least get close to that output in 2 of the 3 categories, depending on role.

Agree I think being a cog in a functional forward line is pretty important.

If we could get 120 goals from our top 3 key forwards i'd be very satisfied, but it depends on how we set up.

Yes if i'm being serious, i want Mitch and Luko to match one another for scoreboard impact. Something like:
  • Mitch: 50 goals, 20 assists
  • Luko: 35 goals, 35 assists

Someone will have to refresh my memory as to what a functioning forward line looks like at Port.

My memory seems to be clouded by "bomb it to Charlie" and Jed McEntre executing pressure acts best viewed from behind the goals. :(

Just think Jake Neade one-out in the goal square.

Peak forward-line strategy.
