Yeah we were getting smoked in contested marks almost every week this year, and not having that structure you want also limits the way you can play, and we were really vulnerable to long kicks down the line (by either team), so we could be a completely different team next year.

Pou is also excellent overhead and has those long arms, so if he’s back consistently that will also make us stronger in the air.
All of our recruits are very capable in the air...add Mattaes and hopefully a fit King then onward and upward

Is there some sort of strategy to quell Phillipou’s inclination to over train?

Preventing him from running in the main time trial is an…interesting approach.

We want the miles in his legs, but we’re not concerned right this moment with how fast those miles get run?

When some clubs run 2ks and others run 3ks. Does it really matter?

As long as he gets to every session. Hits the gym and gets to round 1 fit and in form off 2 scratchies. I’ll be thrilled.

I believe it was more to do with his coming off a very interrupted year than anything else.

Does anyone know how Henry pulled up? Did look in some bother

Interesting, sounds like he had a bit of interest but fell through.
Nice combination of strengths but seems a bit samey to a few of our younger brigade already, maybe more forward craft.

Speaking of train-on players, I know nothing about Tex Wanganeen except for the family name. What can he offer in terms of football ability? He didn't set the world on fire and seemed to struggle to crack in to a very poor team. Does anyone know something I don't?

I know a few people at old xavs and they rate him pretty highly but they’re also adamant his deal is Nas related and he’s probs not really worth a spot

My Guess is that Pou is fit, but is following a tailored plan to have him flying by round 1.

So at times he will not be doing what you might expect. ie Today he did the 2km Time Trial, rather that the 3km that a player of his ilk would normally do.
I could be wrong, but I overhead in the video the trainer saying ...45 as Hilly steppedacross the line. I am guessing 5.45.

To suggest that Wilson prbably ran close to 5.30-5.40 for a 2km is insane.

The profile of Charlie Banfield on saints.com.au actually has Oscar Ainsworth in the URL.

I noticed that as well.
Thought to myself that maybe Ainsworth was our main target in the draft but WCE made some dubious decisions and Banfield fell into our laps, was too good to not draft meanwhile Ainsworth not picked up in draft or rookie draft but we are still interested. Just got to do due diligence on Tex Wanganeen before making that decision

Most of the boys ran in a 3km so that might have been 8.45
The talls only ran a 2km and uncharacteristically Mattaes ran in that instead of the 3km which is why some questioned this.
Hence the discussion of a possible tailored plan to not let him overdo it.

The people I know at Xavs are adamant Tex got promised a position last year, he then went and got a surgery or two and stopped at Xavier altogether.

I find that hard to believe but that’s what I’m told

ive heard hes been promised a spot on the VFL list, but can earn a spot with a train on
That makes more sense to me but the Xavs guys I spoke to were adamant he’d been promised a senior (or rookie) list spot.

Again, I don’t believe it but they were absolutely adamant.

Time will tell. I would hope it’s not true, the whole point of the train/trial guys is to assess and keep them hungry.

I know the ainsworth family pretty well. Oskar is super dedicated, certainly will leave no stone unturned in his pursuit of a list spot
