I get the feeling rookies tend to shine in the early time trials. They’re usually a bit lighter, don’t have the same wear and tear built up, and I imagine the buzz of running with the seniors gives them an extra kick.

On the flip side, the older guys probably aren’t too fussed about peaking in November and might be giving themselves some room to build as the pre-season rolls on.

Another small forward....just what we needed
He can kick goals, crumb, and apply pressure, mate. All criticism should be directed at the recruitment of the RHJ/Spargo/Stevens types, and the keeping of the Harvey types, namely Harvey.

Upon identifying the need for small forwards, Dovaston is the sort of player we should've gone after straight away instead of wasting our time on junk picks. We've finally rectified it

A differentiator re Dovaston compared to a lot pf forwards we draft, hell a lot of mids we draft, is the amount of ball he gets.

He's not arsing occassional 2 goal games for 6 touches. He's going 20+ and a few tackles regularly.

Not to mention genuine crumbing and ground level ability.

Probably been since Thomas/Boomer/Matty Campbell that we have had clean ground level players capable of kicking multiple opportunistic goals in the one game.

Hope that Banch or Konstanty can take their game to another level so that we have two genuine ground level options.

IMO I’m really looking forward to Harvey and what he can do next year. He kicked 4 in a game so he has the talent. He must know this is his last chance to be a consistent performer at AFL level or he will be delisted. Hopefully he’s putting in a huge preseason.

Have a feeling young Stevens may surprise in 2026.

People will try to put a downer on it, but it's exciting to see clearly motivated kids like Trembath and Dovaston come in and take it up to the older blokes.

Sheezel, McKercher, O'Sullivan, Trembath, and Dovaston leading the way, we're in good hands long term. Hopefully this will create the precedence for future draftees
