I mean that's great for him but would he be happy to play WAFL? Isn't he established in Melbourne with a young family?
Don't know about young family. I read this on the AFL website -

Mitchell grew up in Melbourne, but completed his schooling at Hale in Perth when his dad Barry was an assistant coach at Fremantle. He still has family out west and would happily move if an opportunity opens at West Coast.

Could be on the crows radar help take pressure of dawson and let him play more on the outside
West Coast could be another solid option to help the young mids

game is moving past these players.

Disagree. You just can’t roll out multiple of them in the same team and they are susceptible to shorter careers once they lose pace and become cooked. Unfortunately Mitchell is cooked. I thought he was borderline in the Pies flag year in 2023.
Professionalism has kept him in the game perhaps 2 years more than the average guy.

Mitchell went from on the outer at Hawthorn playing in their reserves to a 2023 premiership. His contribution was huge for the flag. He did have a flat patch, I think in the July area. But he bounced and delivered in the run home-finals. Then injuries for 2024-5. In three years at the pies 26 - 6 - 4 games. The pies played him in the seniors post injury at the end of 2025 but it didn’t work out. He finished at Hawthorn and the Pies in the reserves. The Pies have played Long as an inside midfielder but need more. Maybe Long replaced Mitchell. Players like Mitchell listed above have been passed by. Paddy Dow, Couch brothers and more could be added as being more passed by.

Paddy Dow is no good though. I don’t think you can use him as an example of why that type of player isn’t relevant anymore. Any player as poor as Paddy is irrelevant.

I don't think Mitchell played Magoo's at Hawthorn

Loved Mitchell’s contribution to Collingwood in 2023. Totally professional. Just quality. After injuries it is time. I am surprised Mitchell, Hobbs, Phillips and Setterfield have all been overlooked from the inside midfield group. The game has changed.

The only real strength any of these guys have is winning the ball inside and that talent alone pretty much counts for nothing these days. You need to be able to do other stuff too. If you’re a one-dimensional extractor, you don’t really have a place at the elite level.
