This is just a copy and paste from something out found on the Eagles board that looks promising:

Pies took Angus Anderson from Sturt not long after Banfield came off the board, so I am not surprised that they were into Charlie Banfield, IMO Angus and Charlie have some similar trait that they bring to the game.

What I found annoying ( polite version ), with us not acquiring Banfield, was the huge amount of growth and improvement that he showed post Championships, with each game he just got better and better.

I also am of the opinion that he will continue this trend as he was an emerging accelerating talent in the Colts, the Saints may well have a really good player on their hands after pickpocketing us.

Charlie is a scrapper and wills himself to the contest and invariable wins it, or at least negates it.
He is an old fashioned style player, that puts his head over the ball and wins it at the coal face, because he plays with a hard edge, we don't have too many of that sort.

So when you get the quality of player he was projecting to be, and couple that with him playing with a style and role that we are both in need of and short on, then I would have thought it would have been a no brainer to have made sure that we did what ever was necessary to ensure that he ended up on our list.

Alas, sadly I think he will be the one that got away.

Sounds like a Dunkley situation. I think Sydney at least ended up getting Jordan Dawson that year with a late pick.

Jeez the Swans with Dunkley and Dawson in their midfield in addition to Warner Heeney and Gulden is just ridiculous. Couple what could have beens there.

I guess Dawson leaving is out of their control.

Dunkley didn't really want to go to Sydney though.

He asked the Swans not to match a bid if a Vic team took him, otherwise if he got to their pick he would go up.

Really wanted to be at home though.

He is a massive kid for 18.

If he has any growth left in him in the next 12 months, we could be looking at a 194-5cm midfielder developing in the magoos for 12-24 months.

Slow burn exciting prospect
In the clips I saw, he looks more of a inside contested beast in the mould of Patrick Cripps than a winger.. Just need a bit more composure.

Lol, is he Mason Woods or Patrick Cripps?

I feel like they are two incredibly different players.

Turns out he is moving in with none other than - Gillan McLaughlin, for the next few weeks whilst in Melbourne. Apparently Gill and Drew are old buddies!
Could be other Saints related happenings involving Gill going forward, you would have to think.

I have heard there is another trainee receptionist position available, and we definitely need an extra janitor to clean up the pallets and other debris out the back. I have heard Gil is pretty good at hiding mess so this job might be up his alley.

Gil owes us for landing us with his mate, Lethers.

Doesn't look too unhappy to be drafted to us.

I'm guessing some conversations pre draft had to have gone like this.

WC: 'If xyz get bid on before you we can't guarantee we can take you soz lol'.

Charlie: 'righto'

STK: 'If we were to bid on you would you be cool coming to play with Naz?

Charlie: 'can you bid on me right now'

Great endurance + not a lot of pace + strong mark + good kick = Wing - Mason Wood clone.

That's like an overhead marking highlights package. He looks like he'd make a really nice defender. He times his marks and reads the drop of the ball really well. Nice vision as well. Sets up the play reading it before others have worked out what's going on.

He might end up a Brendan Goddard type if he grows a bit. Otherwise a James Sicily interceptor. Maybe Tom Stewart in there too.

Good overhead, endurance beast and a bit slow reads like Josh Battle.

Agree with this. While clearly a good tank, he looks strong overhead, reads the game well and is tough. A lockdown/intercepting mid-sized defender looks to be his spot
