No comeback? Even you know it’s true. You can’t honestly look at the current system and say yep it’s all fair.

It’s fair in the scheme of things. The lions are perennially disadvantaged. It’s all we have to a large extent.

I genuinely can't comprehend seeing my club win two flags in a row then deciding to spend all my time lording its inherent advantages over supporters of less fortunate clubs on the internet. Like how little going on in your life must you have?

This is some real piercing commentary and his given me pause for thought.

Anyway, I agree and can see how it would be hard for you to comprehend this. Nonetheless, I support the saints rights to their academy and fs selections.

Unfortunately for the saints and every other vic team we don’t get to select the best 30 players for our state to be in our academy every year.

We only took one player this year. We left the rest for other teams to take as part of the service we provide to the league.

So we have roughly half of the best 60 kids in QLD in our academy, and only two got drafted.

Where as most drafts, roughly 50%-55% of the kids come from Victoria.

I haven’t looked at the actual numbers, but Essendon’s nga academy is probably producing as many draftees in the last half decade as ours.

Saints and most other Vic clubs need to do better, and try and emulate Essendon.

Just seems most of your clubs can’t be arsed doing anything more than looking up
ancestry dot com. And whinging.

Yeah not even close try again.

It’s got nothing to do with clubs not being arsed it’s the fact we don’t get anywhere near the amount of potential recruits as you. At this rate the afl might as well just get rid of the draft and go back to zones.

I hope you do realise the list of NGA products out of Victoria, that were actually draftable talents and not Cat B, is very, very short? And it's even shorter when you divide it 10 ways among 10 clubs.

For example in 8 years, the Dogs NGA only produced Jamarra (pick 1) and Luamon Lual (pick 39, delisted after two years).

Buku Khamis (still listed) and Cody Raak (delisted, zero games) are the other other Cat B players we've taken - even with the upside of not having to use a list spot and a salary cap for any player undrafted by other clubs, we've only thought the development resources worthwhile for two other players in total. Hardly a river of gold of talent.

I'll think you'll find if you run through the other 9 Victorian clubs you'll see very similar short lists of players - only 2-3 players good enough in 7 years to be draft-worthy in the top 40-50 of the draft.

I know you're talking about NGA's and not Father/sons but your club has built a top 4 list on a bottom 4 list due solely to the broken F/S rule. Being gifted 100 years worth of gifts. No-one will ever feel sorry for the dogs.

Solely. No other reason. Not because we have a good coach or we drafted the best player of this generation with a live pick 4 and developed him. No, Bontempelli did not contribute to our top 4 list, it's solely due to the broken F/S rule.

No I want an open draft.
This assumes an open draft is fair.

Anyway, same point I always make: If a club can go through the circumstances the Swans and Lions did before the academies (almost no first round picks available in the first or second round, very few in the main rounds, list built of 90% interstate players) for three decades, they can get an academy in the equivalent of Sydney's Hunter Valley or Shoalhaven zones, or Brisbanes metro zone.

Every team has good draft picks: But with being gifted Sam Darcy and Pick 1 in the draft in Jamarra is about 100 years worth of gifts alone. Clubs will go 100 years without having that level of gifting alone. Throw in Lachie Hunter, West, Cordy, Wallis, etc. over the years and now croft, it's embarrassing that you guys haven't won 3-4 flags.

Missing finals with that is inexcusable.

Yes, Zayne Cordy and Rhylee West should have won us 3-4 flags. Absolutely.

or was it Ayce Corey. Can't even keep up with all of the 'free hits'.
Oh right, so with both Cordys the Dogs should have won more than 3-4 flags. Maybe 6-7. We had both Ayce and Zayne after all, top 4 list with both of them on it.

wait, I thought you said you had amazing recruiters? so which is it? And how come you're not listing all of the other players too..being very selective. pick 1, Sam Darcy, Libba, hunter , the list goes on and you say "so both cordy's". what the actual. Horrendous comprehension.

Yes they did pay full price under the current rules. It isn’t as though they were given a pick out of thin air by the AFL, ala the Saints being given pick 1 as a priority pick, they moved picks around and traded players across three drafts.

They didn’t rely on welfare like the Sainters, they controlled their own destiny and prepared to take the players.

It’s good list management.

Full price would be the same price you would pay for pick 2 on the open market. Clubs matching with picks 15 and 18 is nowhere near full price.
