With Edwards id rather have played him where hes comfortable, I mean we made the point of moving him back so why not play him when he shows a fair bit.

But its a fair point you raise.

What I don’t understand is that the non-key depth list appeared to be:

Defence - Smith, Bond, Edwards, Ryan, (Nank/Jones)
Forward - Murphy
Wing - Nank, Jones, Dowling

Just seems very lopsided. I’m guessing that Rankine would have pushed one of the 8 defenders out of our Hawks 23 rather than Pedlar or Taylor. And 2026 it’s no different, you’d be confident that Ah Chee boots Pedlar or Taylor to forward depth where they replace Murphy.

I think the biggest problem is the fixation with roles. Even if you’d contribute equal to Murphy in his role, the fact you’re not designated a small forward means you’re not considered when an opportunity presents.

The first one, with Ah Chee on a wing, Rankine in the guts and Cumming on a HBF.

Rotate Cook and Pedlar in there ten+ games a year, when Tex is rested.

We can't rest Tex because that messes with our continuity.

Same as we won't be able to play Draper in the centre square unless he's ready to contribute 23 consecutive weeks in there at 80% game time.

Curtin looked a bit tired at the back end of 2024 you say. A breather or two to keep him fresh? We don't roll that way. We'd prefer to run him into the ground than have any instability in the 22.

It's a limiting philosophy and has delivered nothing ever but we cling to it religiously

If a two headed coin was provided, the odds of winning are the exact same as if a regular coin was provided.
Therefore, it shouldn't be mandated that a coin has a head and a tail.

I don't think we can play both Keays and ANB in the same forward line.
They are too slow and don't crumb and are causing too many easy rebounds

We should highly weight finals performances, both the good and the bad.

Ok. But what if playing him holds us back from making finals? He did return a few games with appalling stats. Just saying. I was always a Peds fan, but season just gone I decided it was time to be more critical. I am hoping he’ll come good

No no, my point is - as much as we all want Rankine up in the midfield, having him in the forward line (along with Ah Chee) makes us look much more quicker and dynamic.

With Tex AND Fog in same forward line we just look slow...

What in fact you're saying is, we need a quick small FWD .....it doesn't have to be Rankine per se, as his greatest return on his talent is to be around the ball as much as possible

A quick small fwd was my Draft need identification .....if correct, and we had interest in Dovaston, then the Club realises that need as well ....which may also offer some explanation behind the choice of the two train on players

IIRC he was leading the Club B & F until the last handful of games, where we know what happened .....and many pundits had him also in AA calculations to that point .....not bad IMO for Rankine in what was his first year of major Mid minutes
