You guys inspired me to do a heap of shitty guitar repairs today. I replaced a busted potentiometer and a new jack plug on another guitar. I'm pretty happy with it. I reckon my soldering was neater than the guitar tech that I used last time.

I'm addicted to soldering now. I want to buy a pedal kit and give it a go. Does anyone have a Klon Centaur or a copy? Are they any good. You can get kits that look alright.

I've got a J Rockett archer which is a Klon variant.

I know they're ridiculously expensive, but I reckon the original Klons I've heard in demos sound pretty damn good as a boost.

Do it mate. Should be fun.

I nearly bought a Chinese copy of a Browne Protein on Alibaba in the Black Friday sales. It's like $80 or something crazy. I read a few mixed reviews of Chinese copy pedals. I'm just making noise at home so not like I need a $5000 overdrive.

Yeah for sure. I think it would be cool to grab a kit and build one though.

A lot of pedals in general are stupid expensive for what they actually are.

He’s pretty amusing, in a similar vein Joel Hansen can eat prodigious amounts of food whilst chatting and not being too disgusting.

He’s been ill lately, woke up with half his face paralysed Ramsay hunt I think. He has years worth on YouTube.

It’s a chicken Parma, and to save time it’s a potato cake, scallop is a shellfish.
I just checked out Joel Hansen and his health update thinks for the recommend.

I actually had something very similar a few years ago when I woke up with Bell’s palsy and couldn’t move the left side of my face.

Scared the shit out of me when I looked in the mirror I thought I had a stroke at first.

Thankfully a full recovery after a few weeks and some steroids.

I am officially out of flower.
First time since 2018, this years crop didn't eventuate, coz I have been working in a different state. I only like outdoor...I would imagine there is not much around.

Hey Sully, there is a Japanese white falcon up on marketplace today.

Nice, mate. Decent price too.

I've actually decided if I do get something it'll be a Jet style as I've got a big Gretsch Hollowbody

I'm toying with pulling the trigger on that Koa penguin I posted above. Playing "should I sell a couple to fund it" in my head lol

That Koa Penguin is really something. Not normally really into gold hardware but think it goes beautifully with the natural woodgrain finish. I'd dearly love to have a White Falcon (or any kind of Falcon 😬) but gee whizz, it's such a big guitar! Reckon I could compromise with a double cut version though! 🤨

I've got a Klon Centaur copy, it's a J Rockett Archer. Good pedal, was a James Hetfield inspired purchase, and I can see why he likes the original, it just pushes your tone without colouring it.....maybe tightens things a little, a bit like a Tube Screamer effect but without losing bottom end........

Somehow randomly ended up watching this earlier today and have since seen it a couple of times and well, I well up every time 🥴 😄 It's the first audition of a 13 year old girl called Paula on Sweden's Got Talent in 2018 of all things. She's doing Billie Jean, you didn't know you needed this in your life. Well, either that or I need a stiff drink, though I've already cried enough today 😰

Agree about gold hardware but yeah it works on this one.

The falcon Jr's about typical 6120 size I think.

Yeah I checked out the specs from the link you posted, same body width but the Falcon Jr depth is 2.5" as opposed to a 6120 which I think is maybe 2.75"? Years ago when I was looking to buy a proline Gretsch hollow body I looked in to the models from over the years and there were/are many variations of all the models. I was buying second hand and didn't really care if it was a 6118, 6119 or 6120, just wanted an ebony fretboard and Filtertrons. Then decided I wanted the trestle bracing and then decided I wanted a 2.5" deep body since I already had a modded 5120 which is 2.75". 🤓

Anyway my patience eventually paid off when I got a good deal on a 2012 6118T which satisfied all the above. The slightly thinner body actually makes more difference than I would have thought, especially over a few hours. I still have it as a matter of fact...

Having said all that, since you have the Smoke I'd definitely be going for a Penguin or a Jet 🥰

I had one of them!! lol.

Annies are awesome. Again, another regretful sale.

Sold it to the head of music at my Kid's school. I've gotten to know him better and I really don't like him. Had words with him recently actually. The music program is rubbish and it pisses me off. It annoys me that he's got my guitar 😂 😂

Here's mine with the Jet I owned at the time

A real bummer about the intonation problems you had with that Jet, have only heard great things about the whole Vintage Select line. What were your thoughts on the pickups? (T-Armonds I think you said?)

Interesting too that the Penguins and Jets are kinda known as the Gretsch solid bodies, but really they're so heavily chambered they're mostly hollow too, just no f holes or cats eyes

Pickups were beautiful. Really lush.

I think TV Jones does a great job. His Ray Butts p'ups are in my smoke. The penguins have the TV Jones classics.

The T-Armonds were special though.

Reading this I thought of the Notaklon kit by JHS but checking it out there's no soldering involved at all, seems like plugging a few things in and tightening a bolt or two and you're done. Have a mate right into pedals who reckons some of the best kits are made by Aion Fx. Their version of the Klon is the Refractor and goes for $79usd...

Looks nice as. I like my solid bodies so you won't get any argument here.

That might be better, I could get in over my head. I'll try to find the kit I saw again and do a comparison.

When Dave Davies from the kinks stuck pencils through his speakers ( You Really Got Me ), you know distortion isn't rocket science.

Link Wray toured here in the 90s and I got to see him live. He invented rock distortion and did it that way. Poked out speakers and turned the amp up so high that they had natural overdrive.

And yet people believe that so-and-so pedal with a Germanium capacitor is the greatest thing since sliced bread and will make you sound like Hendrix! Must kill people that believe that shit that a guy like Dimebag from Pantera played arena gigs through a solid state amp....... :roflv1:

And the amount of touring pros now that are playing through modellers!!!

There is a Jimi Hendrix live at the BBC that is a pretty good recording.
In an interview , Jimi Hendrix explained how he'd had to keep turning up the gain as the session went on.
After the session one of the BBC Engineer's had come up to him all apologetically and said "No matter how i tried, i kept getting distortion in the mix. ". ( was something like that, all from my memory ).
