I enjoyed 2012-13 for similar reasons, particularly after the promising 2011 (we were still a chance of finals fairly deep into the season).

No the team was shit before 2017, but the negativity this kid got from his very first game, would have killed the kids conference, and he did say many times that it was weighing him down, the negativity that he did get, and the constant comparisons with wines.

Did the Port Adelaide supporters also give Toumpas negativity leading to him fading away there too?

Just like Grainger-Barass and Phillips at the Roos I reckon Toumpas was just a bit of a mistake with an early pick. It happens.

If Toumpas genuinely thought negativity from supporters was a huge factor in his career, he probably never had the resilience to make it.

Injury has more to do with it, after he was drafted he had a double hip surgery, which affected his speed and when someone is slow to begin with, losing a step of speed is a killer, some player never get over injuries, maybe his medical should have been a factor in him being drafted. Hindsight is a wonderful thing

Don't really remember watching practice matches back then, certainly remember Toumps debut against Port Adelaide, and watch Wines play amazingly while we got pumped by 83 points. That was a collective bed shitting though not just Toump. Pedersen had some bad moments to iirc.
