Having a great defense was great in 2021, still remember going to that Carlton game we were 27 points up and I knew we'd win. The problem was the lack of will or understanding to change plans when it wasn't working in 2022. I do think Goodwin did actually try at times but couldn't hold his nerve because he hates conceding high scores. So Goody would revert to winning games like 67 to 52. The thing is being so defensive cost him in the end and was essentially ineffective in the end. The final nail was saints piling on a 9 goal last quarter in a game melbourne had in control all day.

That was Jennings, then Goody turfed him and went all in on contest and defence

Jennings left, Goodwin adjusted, and the club won a flag. Just admit you don’t want to give Goodwin his flowers.

The reality is Melbourne simply didn’t have the cattle to keep playing that 2018 all-out attacking style. Hogan and T-Mac were one of the best key forward duos in the comp that year, combining for 100 goals. Then T-Mac’s form fell off a cliff, Hogan was traded for May, and Weid never stepped up to fill Hogan’s output despite a promising finals campaign.

With Oliver and Trac entering the peak of their powers from 2019–2023, the natural evolution was to pivot the strategy around maximising their strengths. Goodwin recognised the shift in personnel and built a system to suit it — and it delivered the ultimate result.

The teams fitness in 2021 was unreal. It just felt like we would trade punches in the first half, and then run over the top in the second half. And we had a dream run with injuries, only Tomlinson and Hunt missed significant time. But Petty and Bowey came in and didn't skip a beat.

Darren Burgess deserves a lot of credit.

I don't know what happened in 2022. So many instances of running out of steam in the second half after Selwyn Griffith got promoted.

It's funny with Goodwin that we went with trailing things like the diamond defence or had our wingers come off the back of the square all very offensive plays, but the minute the new rules forced us into starting positions we just tried to grind out wins by defending, and winning contest

Just realised that the first one is a bit of a nod to Norwood, feel like this was alluded to the fans earlier this year as what we'll br doing for gather 'round. Guess they decided to leave it as a fan vote which seems appropriate. I'm not a big fan of any of those designs but that last one seems rather dumb

Yeah the last one seems like filler. I kinda like the first one, although not sure how it'll go if the Bombers are staying in mostly black; might be two very dark kits? A chequered red and blue chevron pattern might’ve been more exciting. Reckon it could look like a plain singlet from afar like the new GC kit.

Radical idea, maybe we just wear standard jumpers for gather round because the gimmick of seeing all the clubs in one state would work okay for fans if the clubs looked how they should look.

No! We've got to monetise every possible th8ng about the game!

I dunno, that silver V just about rules it out for me. They are all pretty shit but id go with #3 if forced to choose.
3 looks like it's melting, so appropriate for this board.

Yay for flamehead, a pox on whoever decided to tarnish it with that hideous silver trim. Reminds me of this monstrosity

Last one is my fave by a BIG margin tbh. The chevron is horrendous and the stupid yolk shape and silver trim is even worse on the Y2K one.
