The Australian press have enjoyed dining out on England's perceived arrogance.

But, regardless of ths match's result, I would consider the decision to drop Lyon to come from a similar vein of unwarranted arrogance and should be called out as such.
Agreed. You would have thought after the First Test that 5-0 was inevitable, judging from comments from people who should know better. It's been embarrassing. As for Lyon, I've posted this once before, but you should never go into a Test without a frontline spinner. Ever.

The way the Poms bat, they give their wicket away outside off, so why not just plonk it there all day and wait for them to dangle the bat. They've not really needed to bring on a spinner to break a partnership, the poms do that all by themselves.

Honestly, the way they don't move their foot across swish the bat and nick-out is embarrassing.

Well they tried that to Crawley and while he might have dodged a bullet with that murmur on Snicko and played and missed a few times, he also left better and dined out with some nice drives, and Root left, dabbed, and had no trouble whatsoever with dozens of balls put in those spots

And with Brook it is a trade off because if you keep bowling there you can get him but you WILL go for runs.

No.

I want to see sides bowl 90 overs.

There's a dozen ways they can speed things up.

I'll leave it to your vast intellect to work out a couple of the ways that can be done.
Bean counting, franchise supporter mindset on display here.

90 overs is completely arbitrary.

Test cricket is dying apart from three countries, yet the majority of people in this country don’t give that a second thought but spend an inordinate amount of time bleating on about over rates.

I'm very confident on this bet, have pretty much decided what I will do with my winnings.
That’s a very smart strategy, can’t see anything going wrong there at all.

Pat Cummins is a better captain than Smith overall.

Smith might be better in india where he has more experience but I feel like Cummins makes better decisions.

Smith is also the worst reviewer of DRS history.

They really need Cummins back to give Starc a chop out, Neser out Cummins in, Lyon in Doggett out for Adelaide.

it's true you can have a fulsome day of cricket with < 90 overs. but people will draw a line somewhere as it relates to a viewing spectacle (as distinct from value for ticket $). if teams bowl less and less overs in a day then there should be no surprise if test cricket did up in the shitter. what's the least amount of overs you'd be happy with?

i should add, it's not just the over number. the overrate affects the spectacle.

The man is a dickhead. When Ian Healy is calling you into line about how much of a buffoon you sound (which he did after his West Indies comments a few years ago) you have problems
Def one for hot takes. Cant pass judgement without knowing him personally, as he could be a ripper bloke to have a beer with, but one you wouldnt want to get on the wrong side of.

I also worry about the culture of our team when seemingly the longer you’ve been in it the more you feel entitled to a spot regardless of anything else (Lyon’s outburst, Khawaja petulant post, Warner prolonged farewell tour, Smith claiming the opening spot, etc)…or maybe it’s just the batters! Where’s the team first ethos - at least in public?

Morning/Afternoon all

Well interesting day yesterday very very strange decision not to play Lyon...and Lyon's response was not very good...thought there could be more with his ribs maybe an injury......ducks and drapes being played

and then the press conference from bailey...ffs no need to justify the decision good or bad show some balls ffs ..for me that was embarrassing

Starc was fantastic along with Root....but in all honestly there is a serious lack of air speed from our 2nd stringers

I thought Neser tried hard bowled okay areas but he lacks pace

Boland was just average his bowling to Archer was just crap

Doggett well yeah..not much really to be said.....he is not a bouncer bowler with his pace...bowls line and length in the shield ..very poor

Green ...all over the place bowls good bowls the bad balls every over tries too much for me tries to chase the game...just settle on line and length outside off stump...the poms will nick off they cant resit
