Some commentary

"Yet again, there was a huge focus on moving the ball quickly out of defence. Cooper Simpson's run and speed look good and SSP hopeful Chris Scerri's kicking made him stand out from the pack. Scerri nailed a brilliant pass through heavy traffic at one point that will be embedded in the coach Justin Longmuir's mind."

I’ll post a full report later. There was a huddle and loud cheering at one point at training today. I’m speculating but I think there is a good chance it was the announcement of Scerri as an SSP singing as he seems to have impressed already. Sturt will be out for more than 12 weeks of the season in pretty sure so we could also sign Harding as an SSP provided we put Sturt on the long term injury list

Thanks for the share.

Loving these insights into the players routines and commitment.

The Caleb one showed the mental side and JT's focusing on the skills and physical side.

The club has said it wants to be more open with members and supporters this year so hopefully we get a few more.

I would have loved to have seen a Fyfe one especially during one of his Brownlow years.

Hopefully we get to see him in the new Prime Documentary series from the Drive to Survive people coming out next year.

He is rumoured to have been one of the players focused on.

I'll be disappointed if the media team don't mock up this move from before anyone was born when Sweid makes his debut.

Fremantle’s pre-season continued with an 18 v 18 at Cockburn on Friday, with their two train-ons and a draftee among those to impress. Here’s what we saw.

FIGHTING FOR A SPOT

Fremantle have a tough decision to make between two Victorians for the final spot on its list.

It’s a choice between a pocket rocket, Northern Bullants small forward Chris Scerri, or versatile Murray Bushrangers big man Zac Harding.

Both impressed at Fremantle’s 18 v 18 pre-season hit-out on Friday at Cockburn.

The two players could not be further apart in size or position.

Scerri, 19, is a solid 177cm and presents as a good option as a defensive forward and left gun midfielder Andrew Brayshaw in his wake during on passage of match simulation.

Harding, 19, is 199cm and joins as a ruckman and while he would be well back in a pecking order behind Luke Jackson, Sean Darcy, Mason Cox and even rookie Aiden Riddle, he has been trialled by the Dockers as a key position defender.

Harding took part in ruck drills on the sidelines with Darcy and Jackson.

Whoever they pick, the Dockers generally get it right through the SSP model, with recent success stories Victorian forward-line cult hero Pat Voss and South Australian small forward Isaiah Dudley.

KICKETT TO ME

Rookie Leon Kickett was a standout in match simulation after landing at the Dockers via West Coast’s Next Generation Academy.

The cousin of former AFL stars Dale and Derek impressed with his pace and ability to find space.

The 19-year-old was cut by the Eagles from their academy a year ago and played two league games with Swan Districts, along with 16 colts appearances, and does not look out of place on an AFL list.

REID ALL ABOUT IT

More midfield minutes for AFL Rising Star winner Murphy Reid who is set to play a hybrid role between high forward and the guts next season.

The Reid, Caleb Serong, Hayden Young, Andrew Brayshaw combo will have Dockers’ fans salivating.

Young’s goal on the run during match simulation, a neat left-footer that curled neatly between the posts, matched only by Josh Treacy’s pack mark late in the 18 v 18 that led to a pile on celebration from teammates.

Jaeger O’Meara always looks fit, but has returned in peak physical condition, finishing Friday’s running sessions five metres ahead of most of his teammates.

16 DAYS IN WA

Fremantle wore orange socks during Friday’s lengthy session in support of the 16 Days in WA campaign

The annual 16 Days in WA – Stop Violence Against Women campaign takes place from 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, to 10 December, Human Rights Day.

Fremantle captain Alex Pearce is an Agent of Change and threw his support behind.

“It’s not a nice issue to discuss. So I think that sometimes we shy away from talking about it,” Pearce said.

“I think within our male dominated environment, we should be role models in leading the way. We all play a part in fighting this issue.”

Pearce did not complete match simulation after receiving a heavy knock to the rib area but after leaving the field returned for some running on the outer wing.

Training report
Got down today and watched most of the session. Again a ton of repeat sprints and match simulation made up the majority of the session. Majority of the squad was out there today with only Mason Cox and Sturt missing from all action. B.Cox, Bolton. Switta, Sweid, Ryan maybe a couple ef others Ive missed running laps only. There's definitely no injury with Sweid as he ran Laps with no issues. Plenty of hats on so difficult to identify players.

In the running Wagner, Freddy and O'Meara were the standouts in repeat sprinting. Looks like O'Meara's worked hard since the season ended. His running was much improved on where he was at a year ago in the repeat sprinting. Johnson was also a standout in the running and match sims.

The match sims were mostly 14 on 14 as far as I could tell which makes it difficult to make observations on any positional changes. Wagner again excelled but this time playing mostly onball.is speed out of congestion could be a major asset for our midfield in 2025. There was a half18 on 18 but most of the session was 14 on 14 drills. With Treacy playing as a massive target.

In the full match sims Murphy Reid again did Murphy Reid things playing mostly midfield.

LJ was brilliant spending time rotating midfield and ruck.

Riddle looks way stronger in the marking contest and he took a screamer pack mark and kicked the goal in an impressive piece of play. Josh Treacy went one better with an exceptional pack mark but I kinda expect that.

Freddy's either playing as the highest half forward or spending time on the wing its hard to tell. In the match sim he oftemn roamed all the way to half back to receive the ball so his role would appear to be a more roaming role in 2025 iff training is anything to go by.

Chapman played as the deepest backman today for what it's worth.

Young SSP prospect Scerri had a couple of terrific moments today where he showed terrific pace. I really like him as a long term replacement for Switta.

Overall I thought the skills were excellent today for a training session.

Bit worried about how early we are running match Sim combined with our drop in running (no more 1k trials)

We did the same thing in 2023 after making finals and it blew up in our face, we looked unfit from game 1

With trackers on their training gear the club will know if the players can cover enough distance.

Sounds like they’re doing a lot of high speed shuttle runs in between.

Not sure if they did that before, but might be different

Also means they’re practicing skills and drills while under heavy fatigue, which is good .
