Luv it..

Does your cat suffer from insecurities for failing to win a peace prize after stepping on a button in the Oval Office and blowing up boats 1,000 miles away?

Well, announcing the "Friskies Peace Prize" so bad kitties who just clawed the couch into pieces and ate the parrot can feel better about themselves!
lol

Exports from Vietnam to the US has risen since donny brought in tariffs, which donny hoped would create more jobs for Americans, which in this case it hasn't happened, and in other cases it hasn't happened either.
I don't where donny got his economic degree from, but the standard can't be high, or perhaps i should say the bar isn't very low.
Trump studied topics such as theology and philosophy at Fordham - Islam, Socrates, Aristotle and logic. Certainly not Adam Smith and The Wealth of Nations, nor Thomas Jefferson (who championed a "wise and frugal Government).

Trump was rejected by USC, Columbia et al as his grades were not good enough. Admitted to Fordham as his father, Fred, promised to build a new building on campus. After two years and no sign of a building, or any effort academicly, he ‘failed out’. Fred then approached UPenn and begged them to admit Donald. They agreed on the condition that Snr build a campus building.

After two years, and still no academic efforts, the school were going to expel Jnr for poor academic performance. Fred stepped in and finally built the promised building, in exchange for the school giving Donald a gentleman’s (undergraduate) degree in economics (Real Estate).

Donald was a millionaire at 16, but even then he was well known for ripping off the working class. When students commuted to school together from Queens to Fordham’s Bronx campus, the custom was to take turns paying the $0.25 toll across the Triboro Bridge, according to two alumni.

“They’d go across the bridge, and Roger (his closest friend at college, albeit from a modest working class family) paid the toll everyday,” an associate recalled.

“Whenever they got to the toll booth . . . Trump would rattle his pockets and then claim not to have the necessary $0.25.”

Fordham have basically disowned Trump. Embodies none of the qualities of a Jesuit university - educating ‘men for others’ - care, compassion and intellectual rigor.

Intellectual rigor mortis maybe?

But they are at least getting a return for it in the form of tariffs which they were not getting before?
That statistic is telling me that the tariffs aren't high enough in that instance.

And the market is saying that there is still demand at the price (even if tarriff is being passed on the end consumer).
Manufacturing the stuff Vietnam is selling to the Americans is not coming back to America. Ever.

You can increase the tariffs as much as you like - no one is investing billions in America when;
  1. They have already invested billions in Vietnam and are already making bank; and
  2. There is virtually no stability in the USA. You are being asked to invest billions hoping that the whims of one man doesn’t ruin your investment.
Trump is the most corrupt president ever. No one is investing billions in American until this shit show is over and frankly the empire might have fallen by the time Trump is gone.

America is over. Trump was the final straw.

I suspect that Vietnemese
Who then passes it on to the consumer, forcing up prices.
You obviously have never studied economics
That’s how it’s meant to work but again - they have increased exports so if there was an increase in price it hasn’t impacted demand and therefore I have no idea what link you are making with unemployment in this case.

Nothing to do with economics. It’s just plain and simple common sense but given the paranoia and hysteria in this thread then I’m not surprised that is lacking.

Nobody cares. Completely irrelevant to anything. I could cherry pick any politician you like and come up with the same dribble.

High School economics.
  • Comparative Advantage: The ability to produce a good or service at a lower opportunity cost than a trading partner (what you give up is less).
  • Specialisation: Countries focus their resources on producing goods where they have this advantage.
  • Trade: Exchanging specialized goods, benefits both parties (more than if they tried to produce everything themselvesalone).
  • Higher Living Standards: Citizens access a wider variety of goods at lower prices, improving overall welfare and living standards.
The trend globally, post-WWII, has been the reduction of tariffs (via AUSFTA/GATT/WTO) to leverage comparative advantage.

US importers in this case?
You’d imagine so. But they are only the legal entity. The cost of the tarriff is generally factored into the purchase price.
Example: a $100 unit attracts a 20% tarriff. So they will do a deal with exporter to reduce price to $90 therefore total liability for importer is $108. Exporter sells for $90 instead of $100. Importer cost becomes $8, exporter cost $10.

The $8 would generally be passed onto consumer, thereby reducing demand.
What’s interesting in the Vietnamese example is that demand actually increased. I’m assuming an increase in demand because there was an increase in exports.

Probably a host of reasons for that - however nuance and context pretty much above most on this thread. Memes and Twitter posts rule the day here.

And again, US consumers are paying more, via a tax in the form of tariffs. No nuance or context needed, they are paying more. How is this extra tax reconciled by small government republican MAGA?

You keep saying “well exports are up, so they can afford it, no biggie.” That’s horseshit.

All well and good in that example where the exporter has no other market and the importer could go elsewhere and get same product for $90.

But more common scenario is the exporter tells them to get ****ed and the price is still $100, and the importer is still forced to pay that price because there is no local alternative and they can't get it elsewhere for less than $100 or they already would have been. Then it comes down to whether the US importer can cut its margins to absorb the additional tariff (hence the bad employment figures that aren't being released), or whether they pass the added cost of the tariff on to the US consumers (hence the inflation figures that are being hidden as they fuel that Democrat "affordability" hoax).

After the Hyundai ICE raid in which companies which had foolishly invested billions in the US learnt to their dismay how little that investment counted when ICE wanted a headline. Any international company would be stupid to even consider investing in the US. Sure tell Trump that you will, promise trillions, but somehow the actual money is always 2 weeks away.
