Melbourne takes well to spin from day 3 onwards generally. Lyon should play the rest of the series.
Since Warne, regardless of conditions our team has been at it's best with three quicks and spinner, and I think we kind of forgot that.

I'm lowkey for the Inglis for McSweeney switch in the battling lineup. Harsh on Josh, but 226* is 226*.

Adelaide Test
In - Cummins Lyon
Out - Doggett Boland

Melbourne Test
In Hazelwood Boland
Out Lyon ????

SCG Test
In Lyon
Out Boland

Horses for Courses. Lyon can play Adelaide and SCG. Other than that go with 4 quicks plus Webster/Green

On the Hume Highway? Ballsy.

I know MCG has been better in recent years, but still, it's low-key silly to go without a spinner on any Australian pitch. We got away with it at Brisbane because England can't help but shoot themselves in the foot whenever they get some momentum.

Boland not playing the G would be like dropping Mike Brady for the AFL GF

3rd Test

Weathered
Head
Marnus
Spectrum Bradman
Green
Carey
Webster
Cummins
Starc
Lyon
Boland

Play Webster for extra bowling cover given Cummins coming back with no game in months.
I haven't heard spectrum Bradman before, but it made me giggle.

I would not select Lyon after his shitty comments to the media. Sure, he ran drinks and all that but keep him hungry and make him really earn it back.

Send a message.

"Regardless of conditions"? Really? So should we have picked 3 quicks and a spinner on those rank turners in India? And were we wrong to pick no spinner on that awful greentop pitch in the 3rd test in the Windies recently? 3 quicks and a spinner regardless of conditions after all.

We don't forget it, it's a ridiculous statement.

Is anyone a fraction disappointed that the Poms have rolled over so easily and not given more of a contest, given that this series promised so much? 🤔

Me neither

Nah. I am a McSweeney fan but for team balance it is not the right fit. I'd happily bring in McSweeney for Smtih or Marnus down the track though. I want more runs from McSweney.

Agree. I'm happy he and Renshaw are making runs again (we will need them eventually) but no rush for them now. I'd have preferred Webster (don't give a shit about his bowling either) but we went Inglis so give him a decent go.

Its good to have blokes banging the door down rather than trying to find anyone making some runs

I was a little surprised Inglis batted at 7 and not 5

Thought a big reason for coming in over a very unlucky Webster was to play a Travis Head-lite role in the middle

Not having a wheelie bin spinner makes it tough on your quicks. England bowled 117 overs and Jacks was hardly used until the end. 11 overs 1/34 is fine but if you are in their camp you would prefer to see him tie up an end so all four quicks aren't bowling 24+ overs each.

Australia not picking Garry when they already have Green/Marsh/Webster at 6 always looks off.

To be fair a wheelie bin would be as much value as most spinners the Poms send out here
