I knew they had been under investigation but I did'nt realise for this type of thing. New & creative accounting??? 🤪
yep Geelong decide they needed to give Sellwood some extra cash outside the salary cap....advised joel to whip out 100,000 out of his savings and lend it to a supporter for a month who did not need the money as he was already filthy rich....
never spends or used joels $$ anyway, just whacks it into one of his short-term accounts where he can make a quick bit of interest....pays joel back $110,000 = everyone happy.

While I don’t think Hoper and Taranto are a bust, I do think our football department lost control over the list profile, and with that I believe that Benny got distracted and failed to check Hardwick’s short term ambitions. Plus, we were paying Hardwick a fair bit of coin (I know he was a 3 time Premiership coach), and that meant other departments took a haircut, and in hindsight it appears that there was an underinvestment in Strength & Conditioning.

I don’t accept the narrative that winning three Premiership, should mean we fall as hard as we have. Maybe it was just an unfortunate set of circumstances that worked against us, but maybe there was also a little bit of negligence on the part of those who were in charge.

Ultimately, I’m very happy with where the Club is heading and really excited with the young batch of players coming through. And I congratulate O’Rourke, Livingston and Hartley for navigating the Club and targeting the messaging through this difficult period.
For me it was a combination of Hardwicks departure and a lack of appetite from our premiership stars(Baker Bolton Graham & Rioli in particular) to fight to get back to the top that caused the dramatic drop away. What I applaud, like you is the way the club has navigated through the last 2 years and adapted to an almost complete 180 from the initial approach under Yze, where the talk, rightly or wrongly, was that we hoped to mirror the GWS rebound back into finals quickly, to embracing the complete rebuild of the list.

Like you I am very much looking forward to the 2026 & 2027 seasons as the rebuild gains momentum and the new breed become the core of the side and the older guys get to impart their knowledge before they ride off into the sunset and I'd much rather be in this position now, than where the Pies and Cats are.

Very very kind words mate, thank you so much it really means a lot to me reading that.

It's definitely a lot of hours, mostly done after the kids are sorted and in bed, but it's worth it because a wonderful community has been built on the back of it.

Might slow down a bit for December and catch my breath a bit after a hectic November!

I do enjoy being able to challenge the thinking of people as well with different ideas and concepts that may not always be the most popular, but it's always healthy discussion.
Ain’t no easing back in Hollywood son 🤠

I can answer your question "why can't we replicate the Geelong model". IMO there are two key factors. Firstly, Geelong don't win PF & GF's. This is important because it forces a ruthless assessment of the list resulting in consistent list turnover. I can guarantee that Chris Scott will have drawn a line through several players from last year losing GF side and while the players will be on the list next year other players will be given opportunities to replace them and the recruiters will be looking for free agent as well. Richmond on the other hand won GF's. The consequence of that is we kept players a year or two too long and denied development into alternative players. Edwards, Cochin, Riewoldt and Dusty probably didn't get judged quite so ruthlessly because we won. The second reason Geelong do so well is because their ground suits bigger bodied players and hides a lack of speed. In am MCG final speed is as critical as is physical strength.

Interestingly Sydney is another perennial over achiever and has the same two problems While Collingwood is also another perennial over achiever that does not win GF's. I think part of the GF hangover is the need to rebuild.

"Firstly, Geelong don't win PF & GF's"

What a load of shit.

Since 2007, Geelong has won the most Grand Finals (4) & the most prelims (6).

They also have made the Preliminary Final 14 out of the last 19 years.

That is not failing, that is being consistently fantastic. They have done this without a single Top 5 pick in the draft & only 2 top 10 picks, both of which didn't hit (Cockatoo & Clarke), so effectively they have done all of this without a a top 10 pick in the last 20 years.

Richmond has been in 3 Grand Finals & 4 prelims since 2007. Its actually getting embarrassing the way Richmond People think they can chest pump at Geelong. Since we beat them in a Grand Final & apparently "ended their reign", they have marched on to 83 more wins, which include 7 finals & a Grand Final/. We have managed to win 39 and zero finals.

Once some of you stop brown-nosing the club as demi-gods & actually look around the league at clubs like Geelong & now also Brisbane, you are going to realise "The Process" rebuilds are never as powerful as a well run club with excellent systems and standards, that stay creative and don't let "Excuses" write off seasons before they start. Geelong has not gone into a single season with a "losers" mentality like we have done for 2024-25. We treated the last 3 off-seasons like winning games next year is not important. And it shows.

I am all for committing to rebuilding via the draft with the long-term in mind, but the clubs lack of interest in trying to improve their chances to winning for the upcoming season using the trade & free agency systems is some a seriously cuckold way to approach success. It blows my mind that they stuck with Prestia & his off-field baggage & didn't even bother to speak to Jack Steele. I think Steele will surprise a lot of people. Anyone want to take a beat Steele gets more Brownlow & Best & Fairest votes than Hopper or Prestia next year?

Another scam they pulled that couldnt be proven was Hawkins selling his cattle for way way above the going rate

I agree with your comments re Serpell, he’s done a good job taking over our fitness and strengthening program, given the mess he inherited, the influx of young players and the subsequent age profile of the list.

There would be a lot of moving parts in his role and enormous amount of information that he would need to absorb and understand, so it’s understandable that it would take 12 months to get a clear sight on the overall program.

I recall Shane Dunne making a comment when he announced the extension of Adem’s contract, that in an earlier meeting that day, he had outlined the club’s new investment in the medical and fitness departments. I wanted to ask you, if you had any idea what this new investment looked like.

While I’ve got your attention, have you thought about doing a show next year, where you invite Shane Dunne on, so we can get a bit of an insight on the running of the Club and some of the recent announcements.

Finally, maybe another show we could have look at the new facilities being built, what they look like, how the build is progressing, some of the challenges we’ve encountered in getting it underway and what it will mean for members and supporters.

I’ve loaded your plate up like Christmas lunch, so you don’t need to eat everything, particularly the Brussel sprouts.

Much Thanks

So without promising anything as 100% locked in, in an earlier meeting with the club there was discussion about doing a video on the redevelopment at some stage.

Plus a few other nice surprises which I’ll advise of later when / if they come to life 🙂

But you’re in the right track!!

And I’ll try get Shane on for a chat too.

Will you be going to the club to do the video or via the internet

* Can you get them to measure Tom Brown's height whilst you are at it

The initial plan discussed was going through for a tour when there was a bit more to show.

Could Liam Fawcett be forcing himself into Round 1 calculations?

Competition for spots heating up!

everything is up in the air.

depends on how they are developing in my book, playing them to their strengths

tony lockett reincarnated has not rocked up has he so see what happens

With the length of Faull's kicking he can play up the ground or if he is not accurate enough play him in defence

On put out he would have to be ahead of Samson Ryan, Simms probably helps him in terms of him being a hybrid who can provide a ruck chop out possibly

The tap is having a great preseason and showing alot on the track and should not be ruled out against Armstrong & Faull
still only 20 years old and as we know has had interrupted start to his career due to Illness & Injury
Certainly a player to keep an eye on and has physically developed into a big strong lad

I think the tap is a real chance...
I also think Cut Lunch and Jonty are monty's to start...
That leaves the Tap, armstrong, sims, and the big kiwi fighting for the possible third spot...
It all depends on the Coaches plan and team structure and whose firing well...
And who is not picked will strengthen the VFL side...
Reckon it may take two Q's into our first game for everybody in the side to start getting used to each other...
So early days...let's not all start to panic if we don't have immediate success with our early set-ups!
It's about working out long term Team structures...that are sustainable...
