threw out the old boxes and sets are all mixed together. sorted by colour when it comes to bricks/plates, about as much sorting as i can stomach.
seeing as it's all melded together, it allows me to do stuff like build this one which is from the ideas book 8889, with pretty good accuracy

IMG_20251202_135631.jpg

also checked about 15 sets of old space lego. most of it is 5-10 minute builds with some a touch bigger. macro setting very good at picking up the dust on the bench.

Has anyone her purchased any Lumibricks? I like the look of the art gallery and the reef.

If you have I am interested to know your thoughts.

Looks like it’s a rebrand of Funwhole. They have some nice looking sets ie. record store, house of music.

Check Barweer dot com as prices are cheap, and seem to be reliable. I have bought sets from there.

That FIFA trophy is fugly.
I can't understand why anyone would want it, unless you needed gold parts in bulk. I can't imagine a focus group of Lego fans discussing what they really needed to see in Lego and deciding on that.

Add that to the hoo-ha around FIFA and their, umm, values, and I think this is a bit of a swing and a miss for Lego personally. Not sure I'd be happy putting license fees in their pockets.

In love with that 8880 Super Car!

Finally made a start on the Steamboat. I must say, at about a third of the way through I am more impressed than I thought I would be (given Endurance was so good), it's been an engaging build and there's a fair bit of detail.

It's like Steamboat Willie in that it has hidden wheels on its base that I assume turn the paddle wheel when you run it along the table.

It's also bigger than I was expecting (which given I saw it built in the Store is weird) at around 81 studs long and 4 storeys high. Good use of colour to break up the walls (whatever these are called on boats).

It does look like there's a bit of repetition in the fiddly bits on the upper deck.

Some great part usage - there's a hot dog bun serving as the rocker in the ornamental steam engine.

The GWP with this one was a ticket booth, so no great loss if (like me) you didn't get it.

EDIT : typo

The Death Slice is coming to amazon (availability showing as 20/1/26). Currently listed at RRP, but undoubtedly will be discounted at some stage during its life there. If you're hankering but need a defibrillator over the price, this might be your chance.

There's a Chinese bootleg Death Slice (BoLe 79337). Works out about $330 aud inc delivery. Bit cheaper if you select ocean shipping. No GWP lol

I thought Lego had managed to quieten the hordes of knock-off manufacturers by investing in China and encouraging the government there to enforce copyright. Obviously not, this looks like a direct copy.

Lots of the bootlegs are direct copies. Look at some of the prices here (usd).

Shows you how inflated the lego prices are

There's a fair bit of IP in the design and development which has to be paid for, but yes, pricing has accelerated of late.

Interesting that this clone includes the Star Wars branding, presumably they're not paying licensing there? Pretty brazen. Previous ones I've seen avoid copying the logo directly.

I believe, too, in the past counterfeiters would take designs from AFOLs that they'd published on sites like rebrickable and produce those without royalty payments. That's pretty low.

Yeah. But some of them have their own designers and licensing. CaDa for example, I consider a legit competitor.
