Happy to see Hogan in the runs again, he is coming along nicely. Same for Lee-Young, as only him and Peake scored any runs in the youth tour of India last year. Here are the names I went looking for:

Steven Hogan: 92(111)

Alexander Lee-Young 90(111)

Simon Budge 10(23)

Lincoln Hobbs 2(5)

Any one else you guys are keeping an eye on?
Hogan has had a good start to the red ball premier cricket season too with scores of 40no, 16, 114 and 61.

McSweeney in the best touch he's been in for 18 months. Has a highest score of 127 in FC cricket and on 121 at the moment, time to cash in!
and cash in he did......Bartlett has been in a rich vein of form with the willow of late too....great effort by the Aussie youngsters.....

I think Neser has 5-10 on Oneil.

Regarding keepers - NSW has four on the books. Phillipe, Hicks, Gilkes and Shaw. Perhaps Victoria is an option for one of them to replace Harper, although they also have Blackford and Lemire on contract.

Qld looks like it could be an option for one of them. If Pierson got injured, who would their Shield or One day keeper be? Last year they lept with McDermott but he is now in Tassie. Maybe a move for one of Hicks, Gilkes or Shaw could be on the cards??

He needs to keep scoring Tons!!! Technically he is good enough and he is a young leader but boy if he can score big runs he will be in the team very quickly.

I would rather wheel out a 41 year old Adam Crosthwaite than get Matt Gilkes

Yeah Im not sold on Gilkes either but would definitely take Hicks or Shaw. Not sure about Shaws keeping though. Does anyone know much about his skills with the gloves?

Ive been watching some of the the games on you tube and keeping an eye on the talent. No disrespect to some of the lesser teams but I always look at how players perform against the stronger teams. Solomons from WA had scores of 127*, 87 and 96 against ACT, Tassie and NT averaging 155 in those three games. In the games against the stronger teams he scored 0, 13, 7. Its great to score against the lesser teams but Im sure he would loved to score more heavily against the quality attacks. The overall stats showing leading runscorers and averages can cometimes be a bit misleading. Its the same with bowlers - its great to be up in the leading wicket takers, but those guys aren't necesarily the best bowlersor the ones who go on to be selected in the team for the World Cup. It will be interesting to see who they pick and if the can win it like the 2024 U/19 team, many of whom have gone onto play First Class or List A cricket.

I really hope Callum Vidler can get fit because in my view he is the one that can help us in the next trip to England.

That'll be too soon for him in my opinion, I am really excited by him as a prospect though. The tour is only a year and a half away and Vidler has played 3 Shield games and none this season. There are just too many ahead of him at this stage.

Every chance Starc is still there taking up a place too. Starc + Cummins alongside which ever experienced Shield campaigners are in form should be enough that we don't need to take a chance on a 21 year old.

With Hazelwood ruled out for another Test summer, I think it's now time to move forward - probably overdue really.

It's a tough spot with the next 2 in line (Boland and Neser) both of a similar vintage and highly capable - with Cummins and Starc still at the peak of their powers.

How do they expose anyone under 30 to regular Test fast bowling from here?..

It may well be too soon. I think if he is fit and playing cricket he will be in and around all formats very quickly.

Surely Fergus O'Neill (despite his pace) is too good to not have a look at at some stage?

To me he is the natural Hazlewood/Boland replacement.

Problem is the Copeland precedent.

Takes wickets for fun at Shield level, seemingly an obvious selection...but then you find that he's a bit too slow to trouble Test batsmen.

From what others have said, Hazlewood/Boland are a good 5-10 km/h quicker.
