Never thought id ever about Essendon and football

But likewise with Rosa for me, all im saying is we need to hold our belreath as to whether hes better than Dodoro

So far ive really liked his later picks. Angus clarke was my 2024 fav, Kondo was my 2025 fav, he held strong to get both. So i hope im right and i hope hes right. Although finding defenders past pick 25-30 is hardly nostradumus stuff (Redman, Ridley, L.Hayes, Roberts) all been in this range under Dodoro

So he hasnt really done anything yet to suggest wow this guy is well above what i could see happening

I always said if were trading all 3 x 20 picks we may aswell be gettung blues pick - ended up happening just like that

For me right now alot sits on whether Farrow and Sharp become absolute jets in the front half, that would be huge tick for Rosa, because imo he couldve grabbed a solid F1 and Lindsay instead, i wasnt an keen at the time on Farrow and he seemed to go at his highest range

But he hasnt made any errors yet (Francis, Hobbs, Mcgrath, 2 talls 2020)
Just going back to this. Yes we have to hold on how good the picks are going to be. The thing I actually like is there seems to be a plan and a type of player they want. Seems we are going after players who have no question marks as far as competing goes. There looks to be a good spread of positions. There have picked players who have the scope to move the footy and a few of them have real endurance. Leadership has also been ticked off with a few of them.
We wait and see the results for sure but there seems to be more a plan.
It should be said that although Rosa is List Manager it is very much a team effort under Vozzo and we are seeing the difference in planning between a football focused CEO and what we have previously where the bottom line was the biggest factor.
If there was one real gripe I had with Dodoro it was his plan for the list seemed to be non existent at times. I think he was a middle of the road recruiter who did have an ability to find players but his lack of total plan and the Sheedy influence in his learning curve hurt him. Too many times he tried to find something in rough diamonds when the obvious was right there.
The midfield was clear evidence he lacked a bit of panning nouse.

I think Rosa lucked out a bit.

I rated Sharp and Robey higher than where they were drafted.

But Grilj also looks like a jet, and was shocked when x Taylor got through, but also content we chose Farrow. Who has some nice qualities and is possibly a better fit personality wise at efc, plus has connections.

We probably got ahead of ourselves a few times and should have focused on draft not trading with Dodoro(shiel, Ssss) plus good players requesting to leave Ryder, Hibberd, Daniher, Merrett, Walla

I never felt Worsfold was going to have success, when he seemed like a care taker coach.

Hird and Bomber had a chance until saga.

we probably should have let saga players go in 2015 after Hird left and rebuilt in the draft.

So far Rosa gets a tick.
only issues has been probably signing edward's early and Jones and glut of forwards after adding McMahon and May to go along with others.

going into next offseason I’d really expect more of the same.

1. Try and use cap space to bring in A level talent and if not continue to frontload guys to maintain space.

2. Move on end of list guys who haven’t shown enough

3. Move on older players where a younger player has shown enough to suggest that they can cement an AFL role for picks in preparation for Bewick

The exception to that being if we find some success then we will see less players moved on

We're only 10 years too late, the game is moving away from these players.
Not sure on that. The game is going away from slow players with limited footy IQ and average or below endurance.

Is the Bewick hype legit? Seems a few have been talking him up for years now.
Legit.
Already a good size 180cm+ and good kick and reader of play and brings others into the game, high footy IQ.

If he grows more and keeps up his trajectory will follow in Walker / Daicos footsteps.
With changes to draft cost, I'm inclined to hide him.

So Bailey humpfries is a trap and Melbourne, collingwood and hawthorn are clueless?

Nah, spending 3 first round draft picks on a guy who goes quarters and halves without getting anywhere near it is definitely a good idea for us.

Also we have less need now we have Drafted Robey, who I believe could play a smilar role, but will take time and development.

Addressing size in midfield with Sharp and Robey, offsets need for Humphrey unless they are busts.
And we likely get Justice next year too from academy, who is a bit of a bigger bodied Mid/forward.

I still rate Humphrey. But prefer to get someone like Butters/Zac Bailey who are more of the complete product.

But who am I kidding they wouldn't come to us, unless we can improve onfield, and then maybe Merrett even stays.
Plus don't really want to touch 2027 picks as need to match bids on Darwish, Bewick and possibly Rodan.

It’s real, although 2 years away, he’s looking like a really early prospect

Challenge for us is how to get the three or four kids tied to us

Koby - top 5
Moustaffa Darwish - 20-30
Tevota Rodan - 25-40
Roman Yow Yeh - late/rookie

I don’t mean to sound rude but wouldn’t that be impossible at this stage.. and also detrimental to his development

Who really knows where it ends up but have been told by a few in the recruiting world that right now he is doing "similar" stuff to Nick Daicos. Maybe not quite Nicks level but certainly 90% as good. However he is still 2 seasons away and plenty of players have fallen away after being touted top 5 picks a few years out.

Maybe.
Think let him have a crack as 17 year old next year. at everything
Currently they play school footy, for the Cannons and also state representation. Its a tiresome schedule. Cutting amount of games played down leading into his first season might mean he's less likely to carry in bone stress issues like Robey for example. Provided he is guaranteed to be selected by us.

Fred Rodriguez and Max King were seen as top 10 / first round candidates coming into this season and ended up later selections.

Prioritise Bewick and then best available for our needs IMO, the same as our approach to Sweid and Huss this year.

Provided we have a decent finish this year (8-10 range should be fine) we will have a few older players with some value ready to be moved on.

If we’re moving on 6+ guys where 3/4 have real value (could see McKay Ridley Redman and Merrett all getting moved on.)

That should generate a decent amount of draft capital. Maybe do a salary dump somewhere in there as well

Think it is

But 12 months let alone 24 months is a bloody long time

Plenty had Rodriguez and Onley top 10 ish range if not higher going into this year, Ludowyke, NHH and probabky others aswell

Then you have Sharp push from pick 2 or 3 to 13

But big climbers from Robey, Farrow, Lindsay, L.Pickett types right into the top echelon

We have ridiculous salary cap room before these guys depart

But agree id take the risk if Ridley plays 18+ games than id move on for a forst round pick of some sort ie inside pick 18

Probably means Zerrett ask to depart again aswell if were moving on mature guys

Id do the same for Langford if he kicks 40+ this year aswell, if we can get a pick inside 25 for him then move him

Up offers significantly for the big 4-5 free agents

What you described is a great outcome but I’m not sure we get the FAs if we also move on our three best performing senior players

FAs want near term success as well as money

Wasn’t that clear in my post but the salary dump would be us taking on a bad contract for a pick.

It’s also not about cap management but about creating best 22 spots for the younger guys who deserve them who’ve been in the system a few years

the matching situation for those three potential national draftees would look something like this,

Koby (potential pick 3 bid), pick 8 + pick 15
Moustaffa (potential pick 20 bid), pick 25 + 40)
Tevita simiarly
Ronan Yow Yeh, late/rookie bid match very minimal

It can be done, would take some real balls to do it but one i would love us to do. Particularly Mou, think he could be a real gem alongside Koby

we are already an exponentially young list, who are we creating opportunities for?
