Without a doubt, Lily Paterson was one of, if not the, biggest improver in 2024. She showed promising signs as a bottom-ager, largely in spurts playing forward, but a midfield move for Swan Districts prompted a huge change in the top-ager as she quickly became one of the most prolific players in the WAFL Women’s.

Paterson is relatively new to the sport, having picked up the code a few years ago after coming from a dual soccer and netball background. She was invited to try out at the Swans, and since then changed her opinion and never looked back. Learning the sport took a little while which is why there was somewhat of a slow burn for the ball-winner, but once it all clicked, it was evident to see.

We shouldn't of given our 2nd round pick... not a good trade losing a first round pick from 2024
Im not mad about this one at all.

1. It continues to show how the AFLw probably isnt fully ready for a pure national draft. Needs to focus on zones for now.

2. Lily was a poor draft selection and that became evident as the year progressed. Not that she might not make a career of it, but she's a bigger bodied lumbering mid, she is just more of what we already had. We really need more explosive pace and outside players within our squad. She really didn't complement the group at all as a result. As a result the trade result really doesnt feel that bad, especially if Boyd contributes.

Lily at least played 6 games out of the possible 12 during the home & away season. Lucy Boyd only played 2.

It's not that I'm annoyed we are losing Lily its just silly we used PICK 19 on her and than let her go very cheaply after a year.

We shouldn't of traded 2nd round picks but instead retained it and this would of been bearable.

Lucy Boyd was a pick in the 50s for West Coast.... they clearly won this trade for now.

Maybe, but just because we drafted someone high doesn't mean they deserved it. Her performance this year certainly didn't scream 1st rounder. I get what you're saying, but we might've just made a bad pick and are reaping the painful loss in value of that now.

The W draft is very rubbery. And look at the Bulldogs who held out for more for the #1 pick of two years ago Kristie-Lee Weston-Turner and she walked to the draft where North will pick her up. Zip return for the Dogs.
