In one of the videos you could see an office working his way to their position and trying to flank them.

They were probably just patrol cops who have been given the basic training. Not SOG who trading day I. Say out for every situation.

It was chaotic they have people shooting at them, the think they got them, then all of a sudden there another in black shirt guy where the gun men were. So they pop a round at him, he ends up being a civilian.. by the time they get there, there are 3-4 civilians screaming and carrying on and pointing.

I don't disagree on the chaos component. My brother as an ex-cop tells me they are ( were at the time ) trained to deal with chaos and hostility.

Get a grip. A couple of psychos just went nuts, the PM can't be responsible for every nutter in this country. The fact that Netanyahu is lecturing us is also a joke. This isn't about politics. The one good thing that may come out of it is a further tightening of gun laws, this is generally a very safe society unlike many others throughout the world.

Way too easy to become a cop these days. But they are desperate for numbers I guess. In saying that, not an easy situation to navigate.

The hiring practices are also about filling quotas a lot of the time, not finding the best candidate.

A mate of mine's now a detective in Qld but when he first applied he couldn't even get a look in. This is a bloke who was a personal trainer for 6 years, volunteered for the SES and did a range of extra-curricular activities to make himself as appealing a candidate as possible.

After the intake was over, there was a big puff piece in the courier mail about how great it was that QPol had all these new inductees who were women and foreign minorities. Not a single white guy in the intake.

He applied for the next intake and was first one in the door and topped his class, who were mostly white guys(not saying white guys are 'better' but clearly they'd reached their quota in the last intake so shifted priority).

I don't want a DEI debate but when recruiting people to enforce the law, I want the best people possible, whoever they are(race, sex, age, religion, etc. It doesn't matter, just be the best), not a targeted recruitment campaign to fill a quota and puff pieces announcing it after the fact.

They are actually trained to respond to active shooter situations - it's called AAO, and that training has been upgraded to shoot offenders on sight. Some brave officers on the day did so and have paid a price.

I will be interested to hear how they all responded.
