You could have said that decades ago. Israel could have fairly normal relations with most of its neighbours if it wanted to. Very few pose any direct threats, and Israel has escalated when it doesn't need to.
How?

I'm not excusing the actions of Israel here, as they've done some pretty horrific shit, but the surrounding Arab nations have tried multiple times to invade and wipe them out.

Do they just die instead?

I'm in Tassie and I know alot of people who go shooting regularly. But I live in a small town and don't have any firearms. Don't really need them. Used to live in NSW in the bush. It was a bit different there. Wild dogs, wild pigs and livestock on the property but I don't really care. I also knowhow easy it is to get illegal guns so I'm skeptical about how useful these gun laws will be. Incidents like this may be prevented but they're so rare anyway.

One thing less firearms in the community probably has done is lower the amount of suicide. That can only be a good thing.

Gun laws may not stop it, but at least we don't have to make it easy.

Nothing against having an opinion but just don't bring the Israel vs Palestine conflict & violence to Australian shores. If people feel the need to act violently, then go home and fight it in where the battles are actually occurring.

people who read a few cliff notes and think they understand the conflict. Picking a side they think makes them sound cool...embarrassing

this argument shouldn't be happening in Australia....The End

Not all Christians blow up abortion clinics...
No but nearly twice as many people died in the Bondi shooting as the amount of people who have been killed in abortion clinic bombings since 1977.

You actually have no idea why people hunt, it's implicit in your post. Yo've clearly never lived a rural or remote life of substance, nor have you ever hunted.

Good day.

They enjoy killing things and convince themselves that its for the eating.

Now tell me why someone in a suburb of Sydney needs 6 guns and we should not change the laws so that they can no longer own 6 guns.

Interesting article speculating on the on the nature of the rifles used in the attack:

“Over the last several years there’s been this proliferation of what you call straight-pull guns,” said Dr John Coyne, the director of the national security program at the Australian Strategic Policy Institute and a former federal police officer. “It’s because they are faster.

“It’s a global trend – they’re designed and made all over the place,” Coyne said. But in Australia, the trend was pronounced because “people couldn’t get access to semi-automatic firing weapons, and they get closer to that speed for repeated fire”.

The straight-pull action – clearly demonstrated by Naveed Akram in one video– means that after the gun is fired, the shooter needs only to pull the bolt back in one movement to load another round.

Australia opposing genocide is a pretty stock-standard position though. We did it in WWII.

Australia supporting international law and people's right to self-determination is also pretty stock standard.

And we started recognising them to punish Israel. Now that a massacre has taken place in Australia, I guess that pushes things the other way?

Or do things continue to be win/win for Islamic terrorists? When you get attacked, you make gains. When you commit an atrocity, nothing happens and the victims just need to show resilience and cop it.
The vast majority of Palestinians are not terrorists. Most of them are ordinary people who used to have homes and family members.

They aren't being recognised to punish Israel. They're being recognised because they are people like you (I presume) and me.

You might not see it but your thinking is the sort of thinking that leads to stuff like what happened yesterday.

You think that its not vile to protest Palestine in Bondi ...TODAY?

Please explain...why you think it was OK to protest about Palestine at Bondi today.?
A show of support for the gunmen?
Holding the citizens of Bondi responsible for the situation in Israel.?
WHAT?

Whoever organized it did not do their cause any favours. Blatant hate peddling.
LOL. You do realise that the only protesters today at the Bondi memorial were all Jewish?
Whose families were all murdered during the Holocaust.
You knew that, didn't you?

Maybe read my post again and look up when those invasions (or pre-emptive attacks due to impending invasion) happened.

Weren't they all registered to the dad? Him only having 1 instead of multiple would have made a difference.

Federal registration databases to ensure ASIO can connect the dots between high risk people and proximity to gun ownership (if they can't already) would quite possibly have helped too.
Did you hear the Albo's press conference I thought he said the father was a temporary visa holder is that right, and if right how did he have a gun licence ?

Iran and Qatar have been funding and suppling Hamas and Hezbollah for years.

I agree they need to have a compromise with Palestine, especially in regards to the settlers invading the West Bank but it takes 2 to tango.

Israel was attacked by Syrian, Egyptian, Jordanian, Iraqi and Saudi Arabian armies the day after it was proclaimed as a Jewish state.

Why does this weird idea come up repeatedly.

Israel can defend itself, no one has said they can't.

They don't have to go and commit a genocide.
Ok, so do they just let Hamas launch incursions across the border every few years and keep building defences to shoot down rockets forever?

When do the Palestinians get held accountable for their actions?

Like I said in the above post, it takes 2 to tango.

Shooters Party power has increased significantly over the last 20 years and the main parties hate eachother so much they would rather deal with the nutjobs.

I'm sure I read on the ABC that the son was born here (he's 24), can't find the article atm. So I assume he's been here quite a long time. Apparently has had a gun license for 10 years with no incidents.

Please tell me what I have in common with the mass shooters.
Based on your comments you seem to think there's a bunch of humans who don't deserve the same respect and right to life as other humans you deem worthy.

You might not have go round shooting people but is that because you haven't found the right excuse yet?

Don't answer me, I don't give a shit, ask yourself that when you're looking in the mirror next.

Hamas. Not Palestinians.

I mean, Israeli leadership could start by not running a multi-decade occupation creating multiple generations of stateless people lacking self determination. That would probably go some way to reducing the ability of militant groups like Hamas to recruit and radicalise marginalised young men willing to resort to violence in the face of no other options.

Strange how people always blame Palestinians for Hamas, ignore the thousands of innocents slaughtered by the IDF, and skip over the decades of occupation that might just contribute to Hamas being the organisation it is.

Hamas isn't in the West Bank and the people there are subject to occupation and killings as well.

Hamas aren't the good guys, neither is Israel.
