Someone asked to rate the coaches, 1-18. Its an interesting thought but I’d rather categorise them. I think Nicks has 2 years to prove he’s in the top category or the bottom one. He won’t get another contract unless he at least takes us to a GF IMO.

Proven/elite
Chris Scott
Fagan
Hardwick
McRae

Potential/jury’s out
Mitchell
Kingsley
Longmuir
Nicks

Proven/maybe past it
Clarkson
Beveridge
Lyon

Unproven/begginers
Cox
Carr
Yze
King
McQualter

Spuds
Voss
Brad Scott

I approve of this method because it puts Nicks under Brad Scott.

Now you're simply playing games to emphasise your agenda ......NVB also worked under a Flag winning Coach .... most coaches are appointed from successful flag winning programs

It's a silly exercise

Or Clarkson, Chris Fagan, Leigh Matthews ......

Those coaches proved themselves through winning flags

Fagan and Clarkson both won premierships as assistants too (Fagan was head of coaching at Hawthorn, Clarkson assistant at Port Adelaide)

That's not the point you were making though, in your post

I ranked all current AFL coaches based on what they have achieved in their coaching career

There are only three current AFL coaches that have not either won a final, or won a flag as a head coach or assistant coach. Those coaches are Nicks, Cox and Carr

Why are you getting upset that Nicks hasn't achieved anything? It's factually true

But you can only achieve with what you have.
Correct, you have to have the cattle, with a level of experience

Look at all the top 10 picks GWS and GCS have had over the years .....all their coaches have still been sacked

Kids make kids mistakes .....todays game is as much about what you're doing without the ball ... positioning, defending .....it takes time for kids to learn, after junior careers of attacking footy & being fed the footy as the better players

An in between contract extension for an in between coach

Nicks is a decent coach. We'll win enough to keep hopes up but does anyone believe a Nicks team can go toe-to-toe with finals proven coaches & teams in September (should we get there)?

It's difficult to judge his finals failures harshly too (2025 and any future ones) given that they get explained away if even 1 of our first 22 is unavailable for any reason, or there's a goal umpiring error, or there are whispers that some of the squad had the flu

It seems like his contract extension was a compromise too. Some on the board are all in. Ready for a lengthy extension now. He's the man. Others thinking hang on... let's just wait and see. Remember 2024? So the compromise: A short extension penned now. Neither here nor there.

Kids do make mistakes, should a senior coach in his 6th year after being an assistant for many years, make mistakes? He made plenty in the finals.

If you don’t believe he did, I can list them for you.

Facts are you can try and lump our deplorable finals campaign on the players, but they are only part to blame, Nicks takes the majority of the blame.

Was it Nicks fault that he selected 9 defenders?
Was it Nicks fault he played Max out of position?
Was it Nicks fault he left Bond on Elliot?
Was it Nicks fault we didn’t tag Daicos?
Was it Nicks fault Moore was left a loose man all game taking the record interception marks in a final?
Was it Nicks fault he didn’t tag Newcombe?
Was it Nicks fault he didn’t move Keane off Gunston?
Was it Nicks fault he played Rach as the sub?
Was it Nicks fault he created a gameplan with slow ball movement, with the least amount of handballs in the final and the rest of the finalists ran and handballed?
Was it Nicks fault he didn’t rotate the squad so we had more options?
WaynesWorld19 perhaps you can have a crack at this give Macca walked away from it

It’s almost as if he’s a poor matchday coach 🤔

Wow - Nicks, Cox and Carr.

Thats an amazing stat - he has not tasted the ultimate success anywhere - not at Sydney, not at Port and not at GWS. Not as a player, not as an assistant coach and not as a coach at the moment.

But lets all sing kumbaya.
