Love 'working' this time of year. Everyone takes extra time off so I just get to sit here and watch the cricket while not having to use any annual leave.

I've got 3 weeks WFH and the majority of my work will die in the arse by midday today and not pick back up until after new years.

This'll be me by Wednesday morning:

Boss always took the week off leading up to Chrissie and out came the tennis ball and bat for the annual office ashes series.

Loved it.

Now I'm the boss, I work until 5pm on Chrissie eve because I know what the little bastards get up to.

We used to have a chill, cruisy day in the office on the last day before the break, but compliance burden has become so onerous that we don't have any time anymore.

Yeah we used to open beers mid-arvo and play cricket and do nothing. Now if in the office we work to the end of our shift, staring at the screen if there's no work.

The year that it changed in our office will stay forever in my mind. One of the guys had packed up his desk by 10am that morning (desks had to be clear for annual deep clean), with the intention of doing SFA for the rest of the day - in line with what had gone down in the past only for one of the Directors to swing past and absolutely tear him a new one in front of everybody.

Culture.

Life is ****ed sometimes

Came out from the study to find one of my cats had passed away on the couch. We have pet cameras so I looked to see what happened.

8.31pm - he jumps up on the couch, looking happy and healthy. Gave himself a lick and then curled up in his usual position.

He went to sleep and never woke up.

My partner was at the other end of the couch and said he didn't make any noise or anything, so it seems he went peacefully at least. She only noticed something was wrong when she turned the light on and saw his tongue poking out.

My little buddy just drifted off to sleep. He was only 2 years old.

I know cats aren't everyone's cup of tea but this big fella was my best mate. Got him not long after my Dad passed away and he was a great companion who helped me through some tough times.

Rest easy Carlos, I'll miss you buddy.
My condolences brother ❤️❤️❤️

The current generation won’t ever get to experience the fun offices could be..
now it’s us old guys reminiscing about how good it used to be.

Im fifo, we went from a 2 n 1 roster to 2 n 2, so apparently my crew has Christmas off for 7 years or something. The other crews are already complaining so they'll try to do a mid year roster swap.

Yeah I've been in mining for 6 years and that's pretty common with even time rosters. My company does the swap every few years to keep it somewhat fair but you'll never keep everyone happy.

Unfortunately that's what you sign up for with shift work.

Yeah , the company i work for is very very dumb so dont know how they'll manage it
Also the new rules regarding working on public holidays means we can take them off but not use annual leave to i was supposed to fly in on new years day but asked for it off, got it approved and dont have to use A/L, which is awesome

Absolutely baffles me how where Roe Highway meets the Kwinana Southbound, people still can't merge onto the freeway even though it's not an actual merging lane, it becomes an additional lane that doesn't end for a good 2-3km
I drive through there pretty much every morning at about quarter to 6 on the way to the gym and it starts backing up even then.

I think the biggest problem is there are a lot of trucks through there, some of which are quite slow and that mild uphill as it merges with the freeway, people just get really impatient and try and get across quickly. Why it needs to merge where it does is beyond me though - it can be absolutely shocking in the afternoons.

Biggest issue I see is that you've got people wanting to join the merging lane because it turns into the exit lane for Berrigan Drive a bit further up, and you've got people coming from Roe Hwy who want to get into the right hand lanes of the freeway

You end up with cars trying to lane swap all slowing down for each other and all of a sudden everyone's doing 40

Dunno where you lot work, but I went out at lunch and the CBD seems to be full of people that have knocked off early and are celebrating.

I'm working from home and on my lunch break there were 2 little shits arguing coz one looked at the other's screen and then in retaliation that one said the other one was breathing too loud.

I recon let them have it...It's something they could look forward to.

Probably gain more than you lose.
Keep the team company loyal.

It's only one day.

Between the Wildcats last night and the Scorchers tonight, not a great week for WA teams losing from seemingly unbeatable positions.
That Wildcats team is ****ed. They shouldn’t be. Bring back Gleeson.
