Has the mix of Nov/Dec training changed since last year?

More or less skill work (ball movement) stuff than this time last year?

More or less competitive match sim?

More or less running?
I’d say the last two years there’s been more match sim and competitive work.

To be honest there hasn’t been a huge amount of running since Burgo arrived (as well as this summer), aside from time trials and the odd mammoth session like Wednesday. Usually about 15-20 minutes late in the session. Mostly stop-start high intensity stuff, definitely no endless laps like clubs used to.

Most of the running work is done during the offseason. Players used to return a lot earlier than they do now due to the AFLPA rules - they used to spend the early weeks mostly just running. But now they jump straight into footy drills.

Thanks for the report .....I'll be popping down for a few sessions after Xmas

The last couple of years, the Club has commented how good the boys conditioning was, returning for PS ...and that it allowed them to spend more time with ball work

What does the emphasis on running this year tell us ?

Did the boys not return in as good a physical shape ? .....you have mentioned Fog

What do you think the thought process is ....and will it impact our skills work ?
I don’t think there has been a greater emphasis on running. Wednesday’s season was an outlier.

Wouldn’t worry about their physical condition! In fact they’re much more even across the board, very few carrying excess weight this year.

Fog isn’t much different to previous years but you can tell he’s just a bit bulky. He did have surgery it must be said. He’s back in full training so needs to work hard the next three weeks to fine down a touch.

The lack of contest stuff is concerning.
I must’ve given the wrong impression.

Stoppage work has been minimal and that’s always been the case this stage of the year.

On the flip side, competitive work has been abundant. Lots of match sim and the boys haven’t held back that much. Particularly the last couple weeks.

I’ll also add that I reckon there’s been more focus on kicking this year. Particularly kicks under frontal pressure. The coaches call play-on very quickly after marks, forcing players to make quick decisions.

I’ve also seen a couple instances of players burning the clock by kicking sideways and backwards to loose players. Hopefully this translates to game day instead of long bombs to the right wing that inevitably turn over.

First time he gets the ball he will look left and right take one step too many and get nailed.

Fog is massive watch.
Looks to be a bloke that is going to just do enough and not take the next step.
With all the time he's had in the system and resources available he should be absolutely shredded for the first year that Tex won't be around to cover for him.

Yeah, what a fatso. Look at that gut.

Hey Bigman, has Foot showed anything to suggest he could be added? Seems athletic etc, maybe queries on footy IQ, but has he got something?

Yep, definitely needs to be ready to go come 2027. Just get through this year and then it’s his time to stand up.

No issues with Fog's physique from photos. That said, I just think we're at the stage that he is what he is, especially sharing a forwardline with Thilthorpe.
