Plenty on here in this thread were worried about Head. Go back & have a read for fun.

Webster's allround game in the Shield was a strong as Green as took more wickets.

Bottom line in Webster was performing at international level. Green hasn't!
If theyre going to keep Green they need to shift him back down the order. He's not a Test No.4 at this stage of his career.

Smith plays, drop Inglis and shift Green down to 6 or 7.

Happy enough to play Webster instead mind you

A lot of the worry (about Travis) was more about him not playing enough red-ball cricket, and his limited-overs cricket form was poor.

Reward Webster & make Green earn his spot back.

Also, Webster a better backup spin option with Lyon now out.

What are you rewarding Webster for? Fielding well when Lyon did his hammy?

Webster was a good replacement for Green, and they both have very similar averages. The biggest issue for Green has been injury gaps translating into form problems through lack of continuity.

It's crazy to think they would drop players to teach them a lesson - this side just won the Ashes and Green is our youngest player. He's six years younger than Webster. They're just not dropping him. This is the only way to give him red ball cricket.

Move Green to 7.

Webster had an ankle injury and missed the first couple of Shield games this season

I think Ashes retained will mean that they can afford to retain Green. He's deserving of being dropped but they obviously rate him, our squad (and the immediate back ups) are old and starting to pick up injuries and they might think that things will click for him eventually. Here's two free hits on traditionally flat pitches against a broken team.

Will be interesting to see the batting line up if it's just Smith in for Inglis.

Does Carey get demoted from 6 to 7 after making 106 and 72 and being MOM?

Otherwise Khawaja or Green has to bat 7.

Green at 7 for mine

Yeah. I was one of them.
I was more worried about his attitude and fitness. There was one match in the NT where his paunch reminded me of Boony.
He looks a lot trimmer now.

Lulling everyone into a false sense of security. ;)

Head is proven big game player, which is why I was never worried about his pre Ashes form.

Great day at AO. First session was not very good. Smith getting his eye in was a worry, but Bazball brain took over and he went for one too many. After that, Jacks and Carse played and missed at about 15 and I thought they'd manage to arse their way to close enough that the last 2 could hold on and get them home. Marnus took a screamer and it was a matter of when after that.

Although, opening the bowling after lunch with Head was, uh, interesting?

Ashes series combined XI after Adelaide Test

1 Head 379 @ 63
2 Crawley 214 @ 36
3 Labuschagne 160 @ 32
4 Root 219 @ 44
5 Khawaja 124 @ 41
6 Carey 267 @ 67
7 Stokes 165 runs @ 28; 9 wickets @ 26
8 Starc 150 runs @ 50; 22 wickets @ 17
9 Carse 14 @ 29
10 Archer 9 @ 27
11 Bolland 11 @ 28

Nesser & Cummins need to play more games, as both have 6 wickets @ 14 & 20 in their 1 game.

Smith also 103 runs @ 52 should force his way into the side with more innings in the series.

Higher number of English than expected because they have had more continuity.

I can't wait to stop hearing the term bazball.

Equally I'm sick of hearing commentary about England dismissals. When a reverse sweep comes off commentators froth over it. Next ball they say how stupid it was. Smith was aggressive and they loved it. Next thing he's dopey because he's just not good enough to keep playing those shots all day. Just call it for what it is, England batters just haven't been good enough for long enough.

Think this another fog type comment. Head still doesn't look very athletic and he never will. Think he'd be first admit it
I've never said that Fog had a paunch, but pointed out when Welsh had one. He has done well to get rid of his, as has Head.
These are facts.

I think the fitness staff have thought the same about Head, since he seems to have been made to run laps of the AO prior to some days of this test. It's no big deal, as long as it's recognised and dealt with. He can't do anything about his build, but he can maintain fitness.
