4719 Balls bowled in the series, the 2nd lowest to decide an ashes series ever. Doesn't come close to the record though(3991 balls, 2001).
Talking about the bowlers on each side being tired. I was reflecting on the old days where Ashes touring teams had back to back to back matches against state or county sides. How on earth did the pace bowlers cope with the workloads?

For example in 1921 the Australian schedule..

From May 4th to 19th they played every day - 5 first class games back to back, over 2 weeks without a day off. And that was the test series where Ted McDonald and Jack Gregory terrified the English batsmen. They must have been iron men.

No wonder bowlers had short careers then. I bet they didn't take the golf clubs on tour.

Could be a hugely different team for the Boxing Day test.

No Cummins or Lyon. Smith potentially still injured. Starc due a rest.

It’s a shame McSweeney injured himself, reckon he’d be close to the XI now that we’ve wrapped up the series.

Is Richardson fit enough to play a test?

Assume Murphy plays on his home deck, but Roc would have to be close.

Wonder if they’ll be temped to blood one of the next gen superstars in Kelleway, Peake or Weibgen at 6/7?

Total fraud given his talent. Exactly what Brook is becoming.
More than 4,000 Test runs at more than 46 with 13 hundreds. Hardly a fraud.

There was a lot of going through the motions back then. The fast bowlers certainly weren’t breaking their backs every spell.

I can’t see why we would do it. Still 5-0 to play for. It would go against what we’ve been doing lately

I doubt Richardson is right to get through a Test

Next test I’d have top 7:

Head
Weatherald
Marnus
Smith
Ussie
Carey
Green

Sends Green a message without dropping him. I’m ok with Beau instead but I think we should let Green work through this, he’s too important for our future.

Will be his 5th different batting position in 9 Tests if they put him to 7 for the next one. Just need him to open in Sydney to try and go 6 for 10

Absolutely they wouldn't be going at 100% every game. But there's enough stories of broken stumps, bats and bones from that tour that Gregory especially must have worked pretty hard. And just fronting up to play every day for 2 weeks straight would be exhausting.

No we don't. This isn't a freaking football team that can no longer make finals ffs! It's international test cricket and you pick people who are ready and deserve it. The future will take care of itself. Neser should most definitely be coming in if a pace bowler is out.

Good grief I'm seeing some utter horse sh!t here regarding possible changes.
That's not the Australian way. If you prefer to compare averages and runs aggregates then England is probably more your go, as in the past they've fallen back on the dad's army selection approach.

When a player is noted as a prodigious talent he will get fast tracked - as he should. This goes back to Ian Craig, picked for Australia before he was 18 and captain by the age of 22. Same goes for Michael Clarke and Ricky Ponting who won't required to undergo a lengthy Shield apprenticeships; selected on talent and potential.

In addition, an inspired call on talent by picking Connolly over Renshaw is not exactly denying the national team a prodigious talent. Anyone, that saw Renshaw struggling to lay a bat on the Indian spinners a few years ago would be aware that he is limited and not exactly a difference maker. .

Keep digging.

As I said, Brook has the potential to be elite, or he could end up as a top 30 for his country and have a nice career ...
That would not make Brook a "total fraud".

Screw it, pick Peake.

Great result, and the perfect day for it to happen as I am currently deep behind enemy lines in old blighty, well, in shoreditch.

Team selection for both teams is interesting.

Putting on my dual coach hat on, here’s what I’d do;

For England, bring in Bashir, Atkinson. Drop Tongue and Pope. Shuffle the order by moving Brook up. Jacks has batted well enough to keep his spot as a specialist bat only. They’ll need a spinner in Melbourne, and the seaming wicket should suit Atkinson.

For Australia, Lyon, Cummins, Inglis out. Smith, Murphy, Neser back in. If Webster comes in, and he probably should it’s for Green and Green only. Murphy has done well with the ball this season and it’s his home deck, Neser deserves his spot and Smith is Smith. Ussies stays where he is in the batting line up.
