What about Ben King?
There'll be a conga line of clubs after his signature, but he'd be a great get. He'd become the other key target up forward, and allow big H the versatility to venture higher up the ground as well as spending more time as the relief ruckman.

It'll cost us a few pennies to get him across as a FA, but would be surprised if GCS match an offer - reckon their cap will be bursting over the next few years with the list they're building.

Anyway, just another pipe dream - apparently he's over the line at the filth, just ask their supporters :drunk:

I would like to see Walsh emulate Craig Bradley, being a receiver who has a devastating forward effect.
Braddle’s is the type of player I would love to see play alongside Cripps.

Walsh would really need to improve his kicking to emulate him.

I hope we don't go down this path. Much prefer a Mihocek, Voss, Morris type. Hard working team players. We need a proper set up, not focus on one gun player.

Prefer to focus on draft picks, improved development and coaching and then smart value recruiting to fill holes.

That's my take

I'd be surprised if we'd be any chance for Zac Butters. IMO, either the salary would be so large that Port won't match (which I'd doubt we could compete with), or Port will match / threaten to match and the draft picks necessary would most likely mean no Cody Walker. However, IMO, I think we could be a possible chance for the likes of Ben King. GC is going to have trouble keeping all their players moving forward, and we could get King as a RFA, if GC wouldn't match an offer. But if they did / threatened to do so, again I doubt we'd have the trade capital to get King and also Cody Walker. Will be an interesting year in this regard....

Reckon a lot hinges on the Walsh situation. If he elects to leave, it gives us further salary relief as well as additional draft capital, which then opens up many doors.

Chances are that Humphrey will again look to move back home the end of the year, and Walter still hasn't re-signed and is OOC the end of the year. Plenty of possibilities apart from King to bring in some higher end talent.

If he stays on decent coin, we'll likely just go back to the Khamis well as a RFA cheap option.

Yep. A lot of variables yet

We have a lot of young talent on our list. How they progress this year will determine a lot of decisions at end of the year

Just way to early to make any calls

We can cross Voss off the list unfortunately he signed an extra 4 years before Christmas

Think the post was about “type”. Combative, competitive team first type.

FWIW I am very hopeful that with Harry McKay, Brodie Kemp and Hudson O’Keeffe, we have just that combination. We need a presence in the forward line in our reserves team and it would be prudent to draft a young player to develop for when Big H starts to decline in a few years. With Moir and probably Ison we have third tall options and Lewis Young remains a competitive foil should he be required in the front half.

Still some suggestion O’Farrell may be utilised forward at some stage to consider when assessing options as well.

Yeah i understand that. But I’ve seen post in here last year with people thinking we should chase Voss over King. I’m just hoping people know his off the table now

Doubt Collingwood could afford to take butters. And I doubt butters wants to jump off a crashing ship to join another one falling off a cliff. So many old guys to leave with **** all underneath, including the fact they don’t gave any first rounders and probably can’t use their future ones either.

Charlie West would have been a good selection in the ‘24 draft.

Agree!
Butters most likely to the Dogs or Hawks.

I reckon this combo is pretty diverse, especially when you throw in Ainsworth, Hayward & Frank the Tank.
Kemp (if fully fit and back to pre-injury form) is the Jack in the Box, Harry the Big leading forward, and Huddo being the strong body/strong overhead type. Then we have Moir who is xfactor.

If it can come together it's pretty potent.

I’d be pretty surprised if Walsh stays if he hasn’t signed a contract beyond round 3 or 4. It really shouldn’t even come down to whether we’re good next year or not. He’s been in the media talking up the whole no-bullshit stance. I’d be happy for Walsh to be our next captain — he’ll still be here when our next window opens. We’ve got some good youth coming through and he has the platform to make the culture his. If not, we take the picks and move on. I really don’t want another season of “will he, won’t he” around his contract.

He'll be looking at a 5-8 year deal, and he's coming off a very ordinary and injury-affected season - he'll be "letting his manager handle those conversations" and hoping he can play well enough, early enough that his manager is selling "peak" Walsh, not a banged up lemon whose back keeps playing up. If that takes 10-12 weeks, then it takes 10-12 weeks.

Who's the young talent? Below is about 46% of our list.

Highlighted below is who I think the 'talent' might refer to.

3 of them yet to play a game and 2 of them have suffered ACL's.

The 21-22 category doesnt fill me with a lot of confidence. Lord has shown a bit, but I think he'll just be a solid contributor. Same with Cowan.

Most other clubs have a couple of players in this bracket you can bank on to be at the club long term and take them forward.

You need to stretch it out to Sam Walsh at 25 to find ours, it's pretty concerning. Obvioulsy we have Walker coming in, but the fact we need to spend so many first round picks really means all chips in.
It doesn't really solve that age profile problem.

Yes they're young, but I don't really see a lot of talent there.

18-20

Talor Byrne
Harry Dean
Jack Ison
Jagga Smith

L. Campo
B. Campo
Harry Charleson
Harry O'Farrell

21-22

Ashton Moir
Cooper Lord
HOK
Lachie Cowan
Rob Monahan
Ollie Hollands
Matt Duffy
Jesse Motlop
Campbell Chesser

23-24

Flynn Young
Francis Evans
Brodie Kemp

(above are all 24 I think)

I can see lord's ceiling being similar to Hewett and I reckon that's a pretty decent outcome for a player from a non traditional pathway.

Not even in the same ballpark re hurt factor by foot. Bradley was a freak, with a left foot.
Bradley was a freak, but much preferred a check side than using his left. I can't recall him using his left at all.

Diesel Williams on the other hand was a freak with a left foot.

Walsh nowhere near it when it comes to hurt factor by foot, more like he hurts us! Lets hope he cleans up his action and becomes more reliable.

I can't see how any trade for butters gets done. All future first round picks are so heavily diluted because of tassy and after Sydney implode this year nobody will want to force trade their own players.

Port will definitely match any offer. The biggest deal in the history of the sport is already on the table.

I'm fine with Walsh's kicking.... until he gets to the forward 50. Then his brain disintegrates. I wonder how much of that is him trying to follow coach's instructions? Either way, he does need to sort it out as he gets so much of the ball.
