Except... they aren't.

There's plenty of footage and stories out there for you to find for yourself, but the clear story emerging from Venezuela today was one of fear and uncertainty amongst the people.

Sure, most of them may not have loved Maduro. But they also don't want to be invaded, don't want to be a puppet regime for the US, and just want peace and independence.

One example seen here:

Of course the ones still there would be uncertain and confused, and some probably angry.
But 8m have left the country.
Pretty sure the majority of them would be happy.

That is a fair comment…. Although how many people did the US kill in this operation as opposed to how many have been, killed, imprisoned, displaced in the last 2 decades?
Surely a line has to be drawn somewhere?

I'd draw the line at - the US President doesn't get to bomb, capture and extradite a foreign nation and its leader, for drug trafficking. That's a pretty clear line.

So where do you sit on Bin Laden and Solemani?

For those who want to download it, it's on page 55. Otherwise, here's the results of a poll done late last year.

So where do you sit on Bin Laden and Solemani?

Where do I "sit"?

Well, Bin Laden coordinated the biggest terrorist attack on US soil, so I don't much care for him. No issues with the US going after him and killing him.

Solemani wad killed because he "planned" to attack US military sites but who actually knows.

Why?

No reason….we draw our lines in different spots that’s all.

Would you think it's ok for a country to call Trump a terrorist then to do a blitz raid in Florida, kidnap Donny and Barron drop a couple of bombs in Miami and hold Trump in trial in their own country?

So based on that poll, of Venezuelans living in Venezuela, 34% say yes, 28% say no, and 37% don't know.

If you lined up countries where a 'line needs to be drawn' Venezuela wouldn't crack the top 30.
But the others don't have oil reserves...

Pretty nuanced and fair to say, the majority of Venezuelans who fled would obviously be in favour and those who stayed would indeed be fearful of the uncertain because as bad as Maduro was, people knew what to expect, as bad as it was, and foreign intervention always brings around further uncertainty.

Don't mistake it for support for Maduro though.

Page 18 - Is Maduro viewed as legitimate by Venezuelans inside the country
Among Venezuelan residents:
55.6% say the election was stolen
13.7% say the election was free and fair
30.7% don’t know
Only 14% inside Venezuela accept the election that kept Maduro in power

Page 15 - Do Venezuelans think the country is a dictatorship?
Among Venezuelan residents:
54.4% say Venezuela is a dictatorship
18.2% say it is a democracy
27.3% don’t know
Barely 1 in 5 believe the system is democratic

Pages 12–13 - Who do Venezuelans blame for the humanitarian crisis?
Among Venezuelans inside the country:
67.4% blame Maduro’s authoritarian regime
19.9% blame US policies
4.2% blame the opposition

The 'don't know' figures are typical of people polling in dictatorships due to fear of reprisals, either form the government or people against the government.

I just find it amazing that the hatred of one man Trumps (pun intended) the lives of an entire nation who have been oppressed for decades.

I find it amazing that your first instinct is "everyone is just saying this is bad because Trump did it". Are you 12?

You've just used Human Rights Watch as a source to support ousting Maduro. They also said this about Trump:

I guess we have no choice but to bomb Florida, raid Maralago and fly Trump to Sydney in handcuffs?
Good to see whoever wrote that wasn't biased at all, lmfao.

Got a link for it?
