Remember the first time I flew to the US as a student in the mid 80s. The Mel-SFO plane had to stop over at Honolulu for a refuel because the engines on the DC10s/747s back then weren't efficient enough to make it all the way on a single tank.

Mate tells me that because of the high heat and strong winds across South Eastern Australia today’s ‘non stop’ United Airlines flight from Adelaide to San Francisco (UAL208 - one of the first non stop flights to the US from here) is having to make an unplanned diversion to Honolulu because of excessive fuel usage.

A quick check of flight aware tells me he's right. Might make United reconsider if setting up this route was a good idea.

Yeah, after being a sports fanatic my whole life, I've just drifted further and further away from it. Just not passionate about it any more. Hinkley/Koch put me on this path and it has seeped into all sports.
