Now that Albo has given Kevin Rudd the big tap on the shoulder we might get an ambassador to the USA who can actually get along with our biggest ally? He has a reputation for being difficult to work with and no doubt he was given a golden handshake, Albo has made sure to save face and Rudd now has another job! Good luck to his new secretary!

Bow to trump !!! What an ambition

How did we sign the rare earth agreement?

Who is the current US Ambassador to Australia?

Trump has been in Power almost a year and hasn't deigned to appoint one yet

Gives an idea of what the United States thinks about Australia

Quid pro quo?

Exactly right.

The other angle is that we are more than happy to send our forces overseas, more than happy to benefit from colonisation, more than happy to benefit from exploitation of workers in other markets etc but don't want to hear about any of the issues this raises "on our shores". Perhaps if we didn't blindly march into war in Iraq with the US and UK on false pretenses it wouldn't have created the vacuum that allowed IS to develop in the first place.

the british handed the leash to the americans during world war 2 because its empire had faded and because we needed someone to take care of us. "all the way with lbj" search that little one and find out about the 300 odd kids who died in vietnam.

just keep the beer on tap and we're stupid enough to trail behind anyone who says that they will keep the northern hoardes from invading...now we've bought planes that dont work and billion dollar subs which are useful for supplanting the US fleet.

australians remind me of a 35 year old who never leaves home and who replies to questions about leaving with the line "why bother, mum does my washing and pays all my bills"

Honestly, with the movements Beijing are making, Rudd's acumen is far better served in the roles he's assuming after this.

Chalmers is in Washington for key talks on rare earth minerals, interesting given Rudd's significant role in those negotiations.

i've never liked Rudd, even when he became famous on the morning show. Has the lobby appointed someone new who better represents their interests? Josh Frydenberg would be perfect but he is slotted for Liberal leader....
You are joking?

Frydenberg.....failed as a treasurer and got kicked out of his blue ribbon seat

I wouldn't trust Frydenberg to take my McDonald's order let alone be ambassador to anything. Less the world hears from him the better

gentlemen we can rebuild him. Josh will be that man.....better....stronger....faster

Yeah, but that only happened because of anti-Semitism!!!

Thats true but times have changed from those dark times. The voters of kooyong would now see the error of their ways. He has led like a king in recent weeks. We need him in charge to navigate australia thru the new world order. It's a shame that he's not able to assist the US with Iran at the moment.

not this voter from Kooyong. You symbolise the LNPs disdain for voters saying “they got it wrong”. The attack front over the Bondi shooting shows they continue with this attitude. Learned nothing from getting their asses handed to them at the election

I've been no fan of Frydenberg, and have encountered him on a few occasions in a professional setting.

But I hadn't seen that Rob Harris piece from December, and it was exactly my thoughts when I heard Frydenberg's comments. I've heard that tone from him once before, and it was again in relation to issues facing the Jewish community.

I think his other aspects will eventually win over and will, once and for all, defeat his ambition. But on this issue, I believe he is not coming from a place of political consideration. The overwhelming majority in this place will fundamentally disagree, and I concede that and also not engage with that.

Very few people like Rudd the bloke - but you're ideologically rusted on if you can't overlook his personality for the significant asset he is to Australia.

I dont want to get bogged down in discussing Josh but I just dont see many suitable candidates other than Josh, for when Albo steps down and the people of kooyong are given a chance to reconsider. Andrew Hastie says a lot of the right things about the regime change in iran, but Josh is authentic.

Was he authentic when he bagged Virginia Bell leading the royal commission before it had even started?

She didnt have the right credentials....surely albo can find a prominent favourable judge to head the RC. I think in the end, the RC will deliver what's needed independent of her input...A decision was made to accept her in that context

LMFAO… he needs to win a seat FFS. 🤦
